The county of Hampshire is just a few miles to the east of Bournemouth giving easy access to the stunning New Forest where ponies roam freely over the moorlands and in the beautiful beech woodlands. Further afield is the fantastic Jurrassic Coast [NT], the Island of Purbeck, Corfe Castle [NT], Kingston Lacey [NT} and Wimborne with its ancient Minster church.
Bournemouth is mainly a seaside town, set amongst stunning well-kept gardens that roll along the banks of the Bourne stream which tumbles into the sea at the Pier, famous for its Pier Theatre. Bournemouth's centre has lovely shops, restaurants, coffee bars, pubs and a wealth of day and night time entertainment. The Oceanarium houses sea life of all types; the Russell Cotes museum is famous for its fossil collections, etc. The walk through the gardens shows an abundance of flowers and shrubs. The Bournemouth Eye is a tethered hot air balloon that soars over the area with magnificent views of the coastline and the Isle of Wight – all these and many more attractions makes Bournemouth an ideal location for a family holiday. Further a field you have the National Trust properties of Brownsea Island in Poole harbour, Corfe Castle, Kingston Lacey House and the Isle of Purbeck. The sailing section of the 2012 Olympics was held in Weymouth Bay – 1 hour's drive away. The Dorset area is well known for its Jurassic Coast, Chesil Beach and the Swannery at Abbotsbury as well as Monkey World and the Tank Museum at Bovington.
