The beautiful Costa Blanca has long been the destination of choice for holidaymakers seeking the warm Mediterranean climate and a relaxed pace of life. This region boasts some of the most beautiful white sandy beaches, crystal clear waters and around 325 days of sunshine each year.
You will find something to cater for every taste - young and old. Enjoy miles of sandy coves and palm fringed beaches or the towns and villages that stretch along the coastline with a seemingly endless variety of colourful markets, shops, restaurants, fishing harbours and marinas. Add to this an unrivalled choice of championship golf courses nearby and this is surely the perfect choice for your holiday destination.
Torrevieja is one of the fastest expanding towns in the whole of Spain, but Torrevieja has learned a few lessons from places like Benidorm, because you'll find no high-rise skyscrapers or package holiday hotels in Torrevieja, Torrevieja is also an ideal place for family holidays.
Torrevieja is surrounded by two large and beautiful natural salt water lakes which form the "Salinas de Torrevieja" and are an official Spanish nature reserve. These lakes attract a wide variety of bird life.
The entire area around Torrevieja is famous for it's salt production. Huge salt lakes surround parts of the road down from Alicante airport to Torrevieja.
The city of Torrevieja which gets its name from an old tower (old=vieja ; tower=torre), was first mentioned around 1800. It became famous in 1802, when it took over the salt administration from Orihuela. Apart from the salt industry, tourism and fishing keep the city alive. The harbour in Torrevieja gives home to 300 fishing ships and over 900 private sports boats. A wonderful view, especially when the sun sets.
The weather in Torrevieja is very stable, with relatively mild temperatures in winter. The coldest months are January and February, with temperatures ranging from 8 to 16 degrees and the hottest months are July and August with temperatures ranging from 28 to 35 degrees.
Weather-wise, two very good times of the year to take a holiday in Torrevieja, are from April to June, and from October to December, these are quite mild times of the year, with temperatures ranging from 20 to 27 degrees. It's quite usual to see people sunbathing in November, December, March and April.
When looking at the weather on the Costa Blanca, it's good to remember that Torrevieja has a micro-climate which marks it out from other neighbouring towns and the close proximity of two salt lakes work in favour of excellent climatic conditions, helping to ease the symptoms of asthma, eczema, rheumatism and arthritis and with over 300 sunny days a year, you're never too far from the sunshine!
As a rough guesstimate, whatever the temperatures in the UK, it will be approximately 10 degrees warmer on the Costa Blanca.
