The area is full of London life with bars, cafes and restaurants serving the local and business community during the day and night. A youth theatre and independent cinema complete the entertainment and there is always plenty to see as there are regular events in the park opposite the apartment or on the walk along the Thames to the Southbank.
The area has developed a richly deserved reputation for being a destination for food lovers with wonderful food markets if you like to cook or equally wonderful restaurants it you don't. You can opt for romantic riverside dining or cruise the restaurants on Bermondsey St which has some of London's best dining destinations such as Zucca. I have yet to have a bad meal on Bermondsey St and there is an extensive range of cuisine to choose from.
The area is also known for its art and culture with venues ranging from the Tate Modern to independent galleries within easy walking distance plus the delights of The Design and Textile Museums and The White Cube Art Gallery. There is also a large antiques warehouse within 300 metres which is always fascinating and at the Saturday Maltby St Market other independent vintage and antiques shops open their doors.
The Shard is within an easy walk for wonderful views of London especially at the Level 32 Oblix cocktail lounge. The nearby Hide Cocktail Bar is also a hot favourite with the locals.
