Llanberis is the starting point to ascend Snowdon by foot (for the fit) or steam rack and pinion railway to the acclaimed summit cafe at 3,560 feet. The coast and the famous Menai Straits are close by on the shores of which you will find Plas Menai - a world acclaimed RYA sailing school. Anglesey is just across the famous Menai Bridge. The Chapel is located at the foot of Snowdon, 3 miles from the town of Llanberis and 3 miles from the historic town of Caernarfon and its fine example of an Edward 1st castle built in the 13th century. The castle houses the Regimental Museum of the Royal Welch Fusiliers, Wales's oldest regiment. Caernarfon also has a variety of good bistros, bars and nightclubs and an attractive marina (Victoria Dock) surrounded by galleries and entertainment.
