The guestroom, with its summer kitchen and terrace, is at the end of the farmhouse which is situated in a small hamlet in the countryside. The farmhouse is recently renovated by Taran & Robert. The hamlet ca. 5 mins. inland from the small villiage of Sta. Catarina and around 35 mins. from the airport. An old Portuguese farming community still exists and it is like stepping back in time. Relax in the peace and quiet of this little part of original Portugal, not yet changed by tourism.
Discover its beautiful countryside with its wonderful nature and lovely, friendly people. Here one can buy their local honey and smoked sausages and hams. Kilometres of tracks to walk are scattered around the hillside adding to the tranquillity of this area. Short walks to a local cafe or longer walks with a bottle of wine and olives to savour while enjoying the fantastic views these hills have to offer. Or laze by the pool.
Taran is also an artist working with "Glass Fusing" in her little studio that was once a pig-sty. Her art has been widely exhibited around the Algarve but can also be purchased from her studio.

There is a 8mx4m swimming pool, ca. 1.3m deep, for your use with sun loungers and shade on the pool terrace. The pool is shared with guests in the Chalet. Around the property is a well maintained garden with various patios and places to sit and relax. There is a separate barbecue area with its own terrace and table and chairs.
The property is built on sloping terrain and thus there are steps around the property and because of this it is unfortunately not suitable for people with mobility problems.
Due to its countryside location a car is highly recommended but for those not wanting a car we are available for a "taxi service". A separate price list can be supplied if of interest.
There is wireless internet access, not the fastest or most reliable but OK for most uses.
At the moment there is no mobile phone signal (some phones however do work sometimes) but the phone companies are working on it.
The East Algarve coastline is dominated by the nature reserve, the Ria Formosa. This is lagoon running east from Faro to Monte Rota. The most stunning beaches on this part of the coast are offshore and access to them is by various boats or water taxis or "little train". The closest beach, ca. 20 mins. by car, is Fuzeta. Fuzeta is a small town with bars and cafes and restaurants and a clean sandy beach. Fuzeta is unusual because it has an onshore beach and offshore beaches accessed by boats. Our favourite beach is Barril, 25 mins. by car, with a choice to walk to the offshore beach or take the little train which costs €1,-.
The East Algarve, because of the building restrictions in the nature reserve, is not yet so spoiled by tourism and a lot of the towns and villages have still managed to maintain their original charm. Not least Tavira. Our favourite.
Spain is only ca. 40 mins. away by car so the area is also ideal as a base for exploring this area on both sides of the border. For example, Seville is only 90 mins away.
The countryside is ideal for hiking. Hilly with lots of tracks for every type of hiker.
In the immediate area there are 2 villages, Sta. Catarina and Moncarapacho.
Sta. Catarina. is a small sleepy village with cafes, restaurants, small supermarkets, bank (ATM) and chemist with its church at its centre. Sta. Catarina is famous for its tile making. Tiles still made by hand from the belt of clay running behind Sta. Catarina.
Moncarapacho is larger and more of a "working" town than village. Here one can sample local workers lunch menus at very competitive prices and good restaurants for evening dinners. Prices have not yet reached the tourist levels here but that does not mean food is not of a high quality.
Possibility to go horseriding in the local hills.
