The Dordogne region of France is one of the most beautiful and popular regions of France. Visiting this wonderful region of France you will discover the Chateaux, beautiful medieval towns and villages, unspoiled countryside and prehistoric caves. There are many famous sites in the Dordogne, including: Lascaux caves, Marqueyssac gardens, medieval Sarlat and the prehistoric caves in the Vezere valley. Yet it is the places you visit outside these ' tourist attractions' that will stay longest in your memory. The scenery, the peace, the coffee in a small cafe, the picnic by the stream.
Vendoire is the commune to which Le Verger belongs. It lies 1 Km to the south along a country lane and boasts a large, impressive Chateaux which unfortunately is not open to the public. Vendoire now has a new restaurant which occupies the old schoolhouse. Verteillac is less than 10 Km away and is a large, busy village with a good range of shops, two restaurants, bars and a bank and post office. It is a typical provincial french village, full of character and a great place to visit. An equivalent trip in the other direction takes you to Villeboise Lavalette a Charente market town with a full range of amenities including a SuperU Hypermarche, tennis courts and a lively market.
