If you want to enjoy skiing in one of the largest ski areas in Europe but not spend an absolute fortune then Les Coches could be just what you are looking for and our apartments put you right in the centre of the resort.
Les Coches is part of the La Plagne ski area which itself is linked to Les Arcs as the Paradiski area.
Les Coches was developed in the 1980s but not as an impersonal concrete resort. Instead it uses traditional materials of wood and slate. It is within the tree line so looks attractive. All the main facilities are within a small radius of the centre and the resort has a really friendly feel, which is why we having been coming here for nearly 20 years. Having stayed many times in the residences out of the centre, and got fed up with the trudge from the shops back to the apartment, we chose to buy in a central location.
Situated above the shopping square, the apartment sleeps 4 people. There is a separate bedroom with two single beds that can be pushed together to make a double. There are 2 further single beds in the living area. There is a small galley kitchen with adjoining dining alcove. A bathroom and separate WC complete the facilities. The apartment is right opposite our 2 person flat so the 2 can be booked together to provide accommodation for 6 people.
Balcony overlooks the shopping square so you are always part of the entertainment. Ski lifts and ski school are 2 minutes walk away, about 50m.
Not available out of season as the resort is closed and building works are likely to be in progress.

Who can fail to be moved when viewing the majesty of the Alps? Summer or winter the scenery inspires you and takes your breath away. From Les Coches you can see Mont Blanc. At 4810m it is the highest mountain in Western Europe.
In winter the area is renown for skiing and snowboarding. In the summer the mountains are covered with grass and flowers. The blueberries (myrtilles) grow wild beneath the trees on the mountain side and you can find groups of French families collecting them.
In the summer the cultural activities also come to the fore with concerts and art exhibitions. The baroque churches of the area and castles built in improbable places, plus the mountain passes are worth a visit.
Les Coches is in the Paradiski area, boasting 425km of ski runs, 175 ski lifts and skiing up to 3250m. The ski area combines runs in Les Arcs and La Plagne linked by the Vanoise Express, a stunning cable car spanning 1800m, 380m above the valley. Les Coches is the closest resort to the Vanoise Express and so is ideal for skiers who want to make the most of the area. The ski area is open from mid December to the end of April and caters for snow boarders, alpine skiers, cross country skiers, snow shoe walkers - you name it, they provide it!
Montchavin-Les Coches is a family-friendly resort. Montchavin at 1250m is the original farming village and retains its traditional charm. Les Coches, at 1450m, was developed in the 1980s as a purpose-built holiday village. It too has a friendly village feel, with a traffic-free centre and low rise apartment buildings clad in wood and stone. If you think purpose-built resorts are cold and impersonal, with no trees and no character then come to Les Coches to enjoy the difference. Les Coches has a skating rink at the top of the resort, easily accessible using the free bubble lift.
So what can you do apart from snow sports in the winter? The tourist office and ski schools offer guided walks and trips to places of local interest such as cheese makers or the baroque churches of the area. The walk from Les Coches to Montchavin only takes 15 minutes and you can get the free shuttle bus back or walk back in 45 minutes - quicker if you are young and fit! Montchavin has a cinema and the shuttle bus does its last run back to Les Coches after the cinema turns out.
In the summer mountain bikes can be hired, walking trails are well marked, tennis, golf, white water rafting and other activities can all be found. The mountain villages and churches are well worth a look, or take a drive through one of the mountain passes that are closed in the winter.
The village of Aime is worth a visit summer or winter. The village of Montchavin is building a new outdoor swimming pool which is due to open in 2011. During the summer season you can hire mountain bikes and some of the lifts are open to enable walkers and bikers to reach the higher altitude trails. The resort is open from the beginning of July to the beginning of September for the summer season. In the valley, at Landry, you can find a water sports centre offering activies for a range of abilities, from canoeing to white water rafting. There is also a cycle path that runs beside the river from Bourg-St-Maurice to Bellentre and Aime.
