The Midi-Pyrénées region

Set on the edge of the Gers in the Haute Garonne region of South West France, this is a lush, green fertile area rich with crops including sunflowers and maize. The region is best known for it's ducks and geese and production of the finest fois gras in France. The area holds one of the largest farmers markets on a Monday morning at Samatan where ducks are bought and sold as well as rabbits, sun hats and baskets. Well worth a visit.

Though not inundated with tourists, there is plenty to do, lakes equipped with picnic areas, adventure playgrounds, and canoeing and kayaking. Further afield white water rafting, mountain walking, spas and in August the world famous Marciac Jazz Festival.

Visit Toulouse, the 'pink city' for some serious shopping and Lourdes the famous pilgrim's destination.

Just enjoy lounging in the hot summer sunshine, usually on offer between May and late September. Escape from the noise and bustle of city life and enjoy the calm sounds of the country.

A 15 minute stroll to the 13th century church of the bastide town of L'Isle en Dodon. Surrounded by bars and restaurants you won't have to go far for a taste of traditional France. There are the usual supermarkets and boulangeries to browse as well as a tourist office where you can rent bicycles.

A 10 minute drive will take you to the site of the WW2 Massacre of the Martyrs of Mielhan.

Award winning gardens nearby.
