Pujols le Haut is one of the "plus beaux villages de France". It is perched 200mtrs upon a rocky ridge overlooking the Lot valley with Villeneuve to the North and 'Mothis' to the south. Although inhabited since prehistoric times and a Roman stronghold (Pujols comes from the Latin 'Podium') – the Pujols seen today is in essence 13th-14th century with its neo-gothic church, Colombage houses and remains of the Chateau and ramparts.
Villeneuve-sur-lot (4km) is a large ancient market town on the river in the heart of the valley of the Lot. There are some excellent restaurants and cafes, shops of all types, banks and theatre etc. On Tuesday and Saturday mornings there is held a farmers market with various produce of the region including local prunes and foie gras. Villeneuve also has the largest organic market outside Paris.
