Güllük is a small fishing village located at the north end of the Bodrum Peninsula and is just 15 minutes from the International Bodrum – Milas Airport, ten minutes from the main road to Milas (15K) and Bodrum (45k). Güllük means “place of roses” and that's a good introduction to this beautiful location on the Aegean Sea, known also as the Turquoise Coast.
Historically, Gulluk was an import & export harbour for Greek trading during the Ottoman Empire period.
The store buildings and warehouses are today waterside restaurants, bars and shops.
There is an abundance of fish restaurants serving locally caught sea bass and bream, cafes and eating houses. In addition there are several supermarkets, hotels, banks, cash point machines plus a multitude of local shops and a weekly open air market. The village is surrounded by hills covered with olive, fig and citrus trees overlooking the bay. The local people are friendly and welcoming and English is widely spoken.
The harbour provides a vibrant spot where fishing boats moor alongside yachts, and locals and tourists mingle along the promenade. During the evenings, Güllük harbour is closed to road traffic and people spill over into the streets and dine at open-air cafes fronting the promenade. There is a lively bar with wide screen TVs, offering a range of local beers and familiar spirits and cocktails.
The picturesque Bay of Güllük is full of small-unspoilt bays, lovely sunsets, coves and beaches and offers views over the historical site of Lassos; an ancient city founded by Greek colonists. Excursions and trips can be booked at one of the booking offices in Güllük center.
An 18-hole golf course is just 15 minutes from the village.
The winter months are mild and Güllük is also ideal for a short winter break. Bodrum town is worth a visit. It is a 40 minute drive or bus ride from the villa. As you enter the town the impressive St. Peters Castle dominates the waterside area and marina. Boat trips to the nearby islands of Kos and Rhodes run from Bodrum port.
In Bodrum town, designer shops sit alongside traditional bazaars and antiquities provide a link to the history of this fascinating area. There is a lively yacht club with live entertainment and restaurants and along the waterfront is a variety of places to eat – Italian, Thai, Chinese, Mexican, European and traditional Turkish as well as cafes and bars. There are car-parks if you need to park a hire car, plenty of taxis and a large indoor market twice a week. The cotton and leather goods are worth taking a look at also.
15 minute drive from Bodrum airpot.
