Quinta Olivia is a charmingly restored farmhouse from 1778 with three two person apartments.

Vista (view) is the broadest of the three apartments, it measures 75 square meter (246 ft) on two floors. From the large dining table and seating area with comfortable sofa one has a magnificent view over the Lima valley and the mountains of Peneda-Gerês national reserve. When chilly, the stove provides a cozy and comfortable warmth.

Through the stairs you enter the bedroom downstairs. It is equipped with a double bed 1.8 x 2.0 meter (6 × 6,8 ft) and en-suite bathroom with dressing table, sink and a large powerful shower. There is a separate toilet. The French doors in the bedroom open onto the private terrace overlooking the Lima Valley and the mountains of Peneda-Gerês national reserve.

The Quinta is located on a private 3 hectare property in one of the greenest areas in Europe. Guests can use facilities such as the outdoor swimming pool 10 x 4,5 meter (34 × 14 ft) free wifi and if available veggies from the garden and fresh eggs from our chicken. For culture, visit Braga, Porto and Guimarães about an hour away. For those who would rather spend the day at the beach, the lovely sandy beaches of Afife are only 45 minutes away.

The Costa Verde region

Festivities/ romarias:

The Minho is well known for its romarias (religious festivities). They take place especially in August, when the emigrants from Andorra, France or Switzerland return to Portugal to visit family. The joy of the reunion is mainly expressed in endless sessions of traditional music and fireworks. Often with performances by local folk dance groups.

Hiking

There are several hiking routes in the Peneda do Gerês nature reserve. We have maps from hiking tours with starting point, progress, duration and sights during the hike. They are also available at the visitor centers (portas) of the nature reserve in Mezio. Lindoso and Campo do Gerês.

Cities that are worth a visit:

Ponte de Lima: dining, market, gardens

Viana do Castelo: shopping, beach

Braga: shopping, Bom Jesus, Cathedral (Sé)

Guimarães: beautiful medieval town with castle

Barcelos: market every Thursday

Porto: culture, port tasting

Valenca: beautiful fortified town, popular with Spaniards because of the linen

Vigo (Spain): restaurants (seafood and fish), shopping

Ponte da Barca

Markets:

On Mondays every other week there's a market in Ponte de Lima (ask Stephan or Marcel as to whether the market is this Monday). A visit to the oldest market in the country (1125) is definitely worth your while.

Missed it?

Every Thursday there is a market in Barcelos. Here are basically the same vendors as in the Ponte de Lima market.

On Mondays when there is market in Ponte de Lima, there is market on Wednesday in Ponte da Barca. On the other Wednesdays there is market in Arcos de Valdevez.
