Backpackers, travellers, Woofa's, drop ins and long term stay.
Cheshunt Cabins are 1950s workers huts that are being renovated into clean accommodation. We have 3 cabins finished and as plans progress we will have setup a recreation room with open fire, billard table, internet access and of course our traditional camp fires outside which seem to bring everyone together and good chat. Cheshunt is a quiet Australian country town set in the beautiful King Valley region of Victorian highlands. 3 hours from Melbourne. Set amidst lots of noted wineries and farms the area offers Trout and Murray Cod fishing, National parks with wild deer and Australian animals, kangaroos, wombats, Koalas and a huge variety of native birds. Lake William Hovell is 15 km up the road and walking, biking, trecking, canooing, golf, all close.
We are located in the Cheshunt town adjoining farms. There is a local general store 100m, the King River 200m and a bus service to major towns Monday Wednesday and Friday per week.
As an avid backpacker and traveller myself I know only too well many places are dirty with crappy beds. At Cheshunt Cabins my goal is to provide good clean beds and linen, clean toilets, cooking facilities with frig, freezer and washing machines to save you money. The property is old but those that have stayed have given wonderful feedback and enjoyed themselves. If you are wanting to experience Australian life then this is the place for you.
We are not an employment agency and do not own the farms or wineries but there is a lot of seasonal work available in the area. Grape picking and pruning, fruit picking and hospitality work. Like most jobs one has to get out and talk to people and phone around for jobs. They pay between $16 to $24 per hour depending on what jobs you will be doing. We will be offering some Woofa work. Free accommodation and basic meals for about 3 to 4 hours work per day. Gardening, painting, renovations, weeding, maintenance etc. Not back breaking or slave labour but with a fun element. These wil be limited in numbers and available throughout the year.
I also know what it is like to assimulate to local language (Aussie and not English) and meeting new friends. You will find me very helpful and understanding in these matters. Being an ex executive I can also help with any business matters or talking with authorities when in difficulty or experiencing language problems.
We have cabins and dorms available long term from as little as $12 per night and short term from $15 Some of the cheapest rates in Australia.
