We've stayed in a few cottages over the years but this is the real deal. Fantastic cottage in a beautiful location. The finishing touches around the cottage are lovely as was our special Easter welcome basket. You were very welcoming and so was Noodle. Thank you for allowing us to bring Jenson(our kitten) he settled in quickly and when not sleeping had a great time.

The garden and history of the cottage make it extra special. The night sky with the stars and clear sky was amazing!

Perfect way to escape crazy city life.

Thank you.

The Apple Garden is a delightful 15th century boutique cottage retreat in the Black Mountains. Set in an acre of secluded apple orchard, it is a lovely country hideaway for those seeking a special setting for romance or celebration, The Apple Garden is also ideal for families with children, with its fantastic tree-house, children's sand pit, swing and generous collection of hand made, traditional toys and games. The cottage is located just a mile from the friendly village of Longtown in the beautiful Black Mountains between Hereford and Abergavenny. Set amidst stunning walking country, Longtown is famous for its award winning shop, 12th Century Norman Castle, country pub and laid back, friendly atmosphere.

Our private acre of enclosed orchard garden offers a wonderful, safe space for children and dogs to enjoy. Pets are really welcome here with fantastic walks for dog owners straight from the cottage door. We can even accommodate horses for you at our farm ten minutes drive away. Fishing is available by day pass a short walk down the hill from the cottage, pony trekking in the stunning neighbouring valley of Llanthony or for those seeking more of a thrill - quad biking and hover-crafting at nearby Craswall or Paintballing at Ewyas Harold are both just a five - ten minute drive away...The delightful town of Hay-on Wye, famous for its old bookshops, funky organic cafes and cool, quirky music and arts venue 'The Globe', is a just a short, but breathtaking 20 minute drive across the mountains...absolute bliss to enjoy the early morning sunshine up on Hay Bluff and then roll down into town for breakfast....

Good Friday

Dear Sarah,

I had a wonderful time at The Apple Garden. Me and my brother really enjoyed playing in the tree house. Thank you for putting up the swing for us.

Laura (Aged 10)

Dear Sarah,

I had a the best time on the swing. The football was really good and thank you for the Pogo stick. The tree house was amazing, fun and high!

From Sam (Aged 7)

We've had a fantastic week, great walks, great cycling and lovely pub food at The Bridge at Michaelchurch. One of our favourite trips was walking to the top of the hill from Llanthony Priory - lots of horses for the children to pat and an incredible view from the top. We'd also recommend walking to the top of Black Hill, Hay Bluff and Sugar Loaf Mountain - all are easy with children ( provided you bring enough chocolate!)

Thank you for letting us stay in your beautiful cottage. We've had the best holiday in years and hope to be back again one day.

Love from Deb, Theo, Laura and Sam

PS The Fish and Chips at Ewyas Harold are excellent!!

We have had a fantastic stay in your gorgeous, characterful cottage over the New Year.

We really appreciated all the effort that has been put into making the cottage so comfortable and guest friendly!

Due to the wet weather we've spent lots of time hanging out by the fire although we have managed a couple of walks - we really enjoyed Llanthony Abbey today.

Thanks also for the lovely hamper of goodies! We'd love to come back soon and thanks again. Happy New Year!

Susie, Jon, Bella, Fia and Rosa.

We have had a lovely time staying at the Apple Garden this weekend. The cottage is so beautifully furnished, we really felt at home staying here. Thank you for the Welcome Basket, the fresh bread was delicious and we loved the brownies and bakewell tart! We also thought the flowers in every room were lovely and the hand-made soaps/chocolates - you really have thought of everything!

As soon as we arrived at the cottage it felt homely and welcoming. The garden and the views are beautiful and we felt so relaxed spending time here. We enjoyed the local walks and pubs and everywhere had a welcoming and friendly atmosphere. "Hay on Wye is worth a visit, a beautiful little town with independent shops and a market on Thursday. We went to a French restaurant, which serves delicious food and has a lovely atmosphere. Thank you for the welcome basket and delicious lemon cake, we enjoyed it all very much! And thank you for providing everything (crockery, towels, even logs!) - it meant we could just relax and enjoy every minute of this beautiful cottage!!"

"Beautiful cottage and garden. Finished to an excellent standard.

Loved all the little touches that make it so much more welcoming - the chocolates, cake, welcome basket, snuggly blankets.

Your garden is fab for pets and children. The dog loved chasing the cars down the length of of it as they drove by!

Our idea of heaven for a weekend break - will definitely be recommending this one!

Thank you.

And Alfie the dog... 'Thanks for my treats and bed!' "

We have had a very relaxing week walking in the hills (Offa's Dyke, Sugar Loaf Mountain), canoeing in the river Wye nad swimming in the waterfalls. Would definitely recommend the Inn at Pantygelli for food - excellent food and the staff were superb. Also enjoyed our last meal at The Crown in Longtown - worth the walk back!

Thank you for a great stay in a lovely cottage. The Welcome basket was very welcome - yummy! Jack just asked if we can take the rest home

Was great not having to bring towels with you - and the ones here are so lovely - super soft!

The gardens are superb and we enjoyed sitting in the sun while Jack played in the sand pit - the next group of holiday makers may find Olly the Octopus in there!

Lots of beautiful scenery all around- and very peaceful - apart from the occasional mooing cow

All in all, a lovely week. Tracy, Andy, Jack and Sue

We have very much enjoyed living in your house, the children really liked climbing up to the tree house. They also liked building houses in the sand pit. We all really enjoyed the fire and watching some of your great selection of DVD's. It was nice seeing the cows and being out in the countryside. We had great fun running around the garden. Even the wet days were fun!" The Ball Family
