The Costa de Sol can be divided into two sections, with Malaga city at its centre. The eastern Costa del Sol is much shorter, stretching from the provincial capital as far as Nerja, where it meets the Costa Tropical of Granada province.
The western Costa de Sol is the section of coast which curves round southwards towards Gibraltar, and includes all the major resorts such as Fuengirola, Torremolinos and Benalmadena, plus of course, Marbella. This section has a very international feel, with visitors and residents from all over the world.
The combination of the mountainous peaks of the Sierra Blanca terrain together with the coastline ensures a mild winter with an average maximum temperature of 22.8 degrees C while summers are dry and hot and can reach temperatures that go well into the 30's. Fortunately due to low humidity, the heat is comfortable and not sticky or overbearing.
Estepona is a little more traditional and Spanish than some of the other resorts on the Costa del Sol and enjoys a pleasant Mediterranean climate all year round with bright sunny days for most of the year.
Estepona is ideally situated to visit all the attractions that the Costa del Sol has to offer from golfing to beach holidays, family to clubbing holidays. For the children there are a variety of places - Funny Beach, Fuengirola Zoo, Selwo Safari Park, Selwo Marina, the Aquaparks in Mijas and Torremolinos and Tivoli World Amusement Park in Benalmadena. For others who prefer sightseeing Gibraltar is 45 minutes by car, the mountain town of Ronda and the lovely village of Mijas are just 60 minutes. The spectacular town of Granada and the Sierra Nevada ski area are also within a couple of hours drive.
Estepona has an excellent beach and promenade and a stroll round the old town is a definite “must”. A local market is held every Wednesday on the outskirts of town and a local artisans market takes place in Estepona Port on a Sunday morning.
