The Ionian Islands are a group of islands in Greece. They are traditionally called the Heptanese, i.e. "the Seven Islands", but the group includes many smaller islands as well as the seven principal ones.
The six northern islands are off the west coast of Greece, in the Ionian Sea. The seventh island, Kythira, is off the southern tip of the Peloponnese, the southern part of the Greek mainland. Kythira is not part of the region of the Ionian Islands, as it is included in the region of Attica.
The seven are, from north to south:
Kerkyra usually known as Corfu
Paxi also known as Paxos
Lefkada also known as Lefkas
Ithaki usually known as Ithaca
Kefalonia often known as Kefalonia, Cephalonia and Kefallinia
Zakynthos sometimes known as Zante and Kythira usually known as Cythera and sometimes known as Cerigo
Corfu is a Greek island in the Ionian Sea. It is the second largest of the Ionian Islands and, including its small satellite islands, forms the edge of the northwestern frontier of Greece. The island is part of the Corfu regional unit, and is administered as a single municipality. The municipality includes the island Corfu and the smaller islands Ereikoussa, Mathraki and Othonoi. The principal city of the island and seat of the municipality is also named Corfu.
In 2007, the old city was designated for the UNESCO World Heritage List, following a recommendation by ICOMOS.
Dassia, is a large resort, spread both sides of a busy main road. From this main road though, there are several smaller roads leading down to the Dassia beach.
There is the main Dassia beach which seems to stretch out for miles. Also two small cove type beaches at the edge of the resort.
Shingle until about 1 meter into the water changing to sand.
The nearest beach to the villa is about 100m, without any facilities, such as umbrellas, sunbeds and water sports.
