More than two years in the making (completed summer 2013), our purpose built modern Bed and Breakfast accommodation in Bourg d'Oisans is set in a stunning valley location under two kilometres outside of the town centre, and a short five minute ride to the base of Alpe d'Huez. The alpine location is perfect for a wide range of outdoor activities, including cycling, mountain biking, skiing, walking, climbing, rafting and more. We are perched on the border of one of the largest national parks in France, the Parc National des Ecrins.

The large house (190 sq.m guest area plus double garage) has a spacious lounge and dining area for relaxing in, with views of the mountains, UK TV, wifi / internet, and home cinema (2.5m wide viewing area).

All bedrooms are ensuite, and there are three double / twin rooms available, as well as a larger family room which sleeps up to four. Card access bedroom and main entrance doors (like a modern hotel) means you won't be carrying bunches of keys around. All our beds and matresses are high quality, and we can configure each room to have either single or double beds. There is plenty of storage in each room, and our modern pellet boiler means that there will always be lots of hot water for a relaxing shower after an action packed day in the mountains.

We have safe, locable storage for sports equipment such as bikes or skis, again accessed with the electronic card we provide on booking in.

Breakfast is usually a selection of home baked croissants, cakes, bio yoghurts (made in house), a range of cereals, muesli, & porridge, fresh bread or toast and jams as well as orange juice, tea and coffee. Our aim is to ensure that you are well fuelled and ready for a day in the mountains.

By summer 2014 the property will also have a new 75sqm deck with dining area and hot tub, an updated bike storage area with cleaning and workshop facilities, a special changing, washing, drying and storage area designed for you and your bike kit, and a tea and coffee area as well as honesty bar including energy bars and gels, drinks and the odd beer to relax with after your ride.

As keen cyclists, we also are happy to provide route advice and guided riding for guests, free of charge.

For skiers and snowboarders, we are a 15-20 minute drive from the ski resort of Alpe d'Huez, and 15 minutes from the cable car link to Les Deux Alpes (in Venosc). For off piste enthusiasts, the resort of La Grave is 35 minutes away.

The Rhone/French Alps region

The Oisans area includes Bourg D'Oisans, the ski resorts of Alpe D'Huez & Les Deux Alpes, along with a number of other villages and the six Oisans valleys. It is located where the Northern and Southern Alps meet, and on the main route between Grenoble and Briancon.

The Ecrins Park, which is literally on the doorstep of Bourg D'Oisans is one of the largest National parks in France. As well as the great cycling roads that make their way into it, there is a vast area to explore by foot, with 700km of trails and over 150 mountains above 3000m. The highest is the Barre D'Ecrins at 4102m, which you can get a direct view of during the ride up to La Berarde. One very scenic walk which can be easily accessed from Bourg D'Oisans is up to Lac Lauvitel. The walk starts from the little hamlet of La Danchere, 12km from Bourg D'Oisans.

As well as road cycling, there are numerous other sporting activites possible in the area such as:

Mountain biking - more than 2600km of downhill and valley trails

Walking the 800 km of trails in the Ecrins national park (the largest and highest in France)

Kayaking or rafting on the Veneon and Romanche rivers.

Rock climbing (known as 'via ferrata'), a mountain route which is equipped with fixed cables, stemples, ladders, and bridges.

Skiiing in winter from either the Alpe D'Huez or Les Deux Alpes resorts (Les Deux Alpes is accessible via the Venosc cable car - only 10 to 15 minutes drive from Bourg D'Oisans).

Le Bourg d'Oisans

Bourg d'Oisans is a lively little mountain town - as the administrative centre of the Oisans Valley it has plenty of amenities and services such as banks, shops, restaurants, cafes and bars. It is a road cyclists paradise, with four bike shops and of course has easy access to the foot of Alpe d'Huez, the most famous climb in the world. In the peak of summer up to 1000 cyclists a day tackle the 13km route up to the ski station of Alpe d'Huez, and there are a number of sportives (long distance road bike events) which start in Bourg d'Oisans or the local villages.

For non cyclists, there are a number of local events throughout the summer, and a year round Saturday market. Local siteseeing spots accessible by car include Venosc - a picturesque mountain village with winding cobbled streets, Briancon - a fortified walled city and the Chateau de Vizille, a former residence of Napoleon and now a museum and gardens.

For skiers and snowboarders, we are a 15-20 minute drive from the ski resort of Alpe d'Huez, and 15 minutes from the cable car link to Les Deux Alpes (in Venosc). For off piste enthusiasts, the resort of La Grave is 35 minutes away.
