Les Tamarinds is set in the bustling seaside resort of La Tranche sur Mer, only a short walk from one of the many long sandy beaches. In the summer months, the area is alive with entertainment - such as sporting competitions, beach festivals, street entertainment, fetes and beachside entertainment with firework displays! There is even a free bus that picks you up and takes you to several of the other local beaches, and lots of guided cycle paths through the pine forests that line the coast or the flat wetland scenery that makes up the local countryside.
La Tranche really is the centre of holiday entertainment in the Vendee - miles of beaches, surfing, body boarding, sea fishing and a daily boat to take you to La Rochelle or the beautiful Ile de Re.
The area has lots of good restaurants that cater to all tastes - from burger & chips for the children, to Seafood specialities caught locally.
La Tranche sur Mer is the centre of beach-side tourism in The Vendee! There are miles of beaches nearby, with Les Conches for surfing and body boarding, St Vincent for rock pools, and La Faute for relaxing and making sand castles. The town itself has so many restaurants - with seafood specialities and locally caught fish on many menus.
Within 20 minutes, there are many more tourist attractions - such as Karting at Angles, a treasure trail around the gardens of a Château at Avrillé and climbing through the trees at the Indian Adventure Park in Moutiers. For a more leisurely day out, there are the Tropical Gardens at St Cyr - with a Lotus Lake, petting farm for the children and Polynesian Festivals in the summer.
Further afield, the Old Port at La Rochelle is well worth a visit - with harbour side restaurants, street entertainment in the evenings & arcaded shopping streets. Nearby is the beautiful island of the Ile de Ré - dotted with picturesque harbours, bustling markets and great seafood restaurants. You can even catch the morning boat from La Tranche and sail directly to the island capital of St Martin.
The Puy du Fou Theme Park is 90 minutes away and this is the one 'must-see' attraction of the Vendee! This is a theme park with a difference - you will be transported back to the age of Gladiators, Vikings, Medieval Knights and Musketeers, as well as watching the best Bird of Prey show! The evening ends with a spectacular light & sound show involving over 1000 actors and lots of animals! Not to be missed.
The area is also well known as the home of the Marais Poitevin - a large area of reclaimed wetlands criss-crossed with canals and riverside villages. There are several ruined abbeys to explore and you can punt along the canals seeing the interesting flora and fauna en route.
