Mijas is situated in wonderful, steeped in history and culture Andalucia in the South of Spain. Mijas village is a typical white village, with the houses climbing the hillside in a picturesque higgly piggly fashion. Explore the narrow streets, gasp at the incredible views, and ride on one of the famous donkeys. Mijas is both a tourist village, and at the same time, a really alive and vibrant Spanish village, village life continues as it always has, and in the "Barrio" (literally "the neighbourhood) where Casita Carmela is located, people live, love and enjoy life just as they always have. That there is a tourist part of Mijas, comes with the advantage of an incredibly vibrant restaurant and bar life, and performances all through the seasons of the year, in summer, there is something going on every single weekend, with concerts, blues festival, jazz festival, food fairs, flamenco shows, pop concerts etc etc...... all of it accompanied of course with good wine and wonderful tapas!
Mijas is 30 minutes from Malaga airport. Mijas enjoys a great bus service both to the coast and inland. It is possible to arrive via train and bus, as well as taxi, as no car is needed for your stay. Everything is within walking distance, shopping, restaurants etc.
The bus to Fuengirola takes about 30 minutes and you can walk to the beach.
Around Mijas ther are lots of walking trails, and we have several guides that can take you round, or you can buy one of the many books, or get information from the tourist office about all the walking trails. Cycling is also widely enjoyed here.
Malaga province in Andalucia, is a place best known for beach and sun. This totally misses the point, as there is also a very rich cultural heritage, to be enjoyed alongside the more immediate pleasures of lunch in the sun. Malaga is applying itself to become the cultural capital of Europe in 2016, which is to be enjoyed in a host of new museums, Picasso Museum, Thyssen Museum, The Contemporary Art Museum,
in Marbella, the Printmaking Museum etc etc...... not to mention, that Granada, with the Alhambra is a 2 hour drive away. Seville and Cordoba are also within easy driving distance.
There is a wide amount of websites, providing you with incredible detail about life here on Costa del Sol. Search under Malaga, and Andalucia, and you find more about the culture, than if you search under Costa del Sol.
Malaga airport with Ryan air, Easy Jet, Monarch, etc etc, makes it a really good value destination. Renting a car is also very affordable if you want to do that.
