The Costa Cálida ("Warm Coast") is the approximately 250 km stretch of Mediterranean coastline of the Spanish province of Murcia. This region has a micro-climate which features comparatively hot mean annual temperatures (and hence its name, "Warm Coast") and a relative degree of aridity (precipitation averaging less than 34 cm annually).
The Costa Cálida extends from El Mojón in the north near the province of Alicante, to near the municipality of Águilas in the south bordering on the region of Almería province.
The local area of Mazarrón is blessed with its 35km coastline which is a wide open bay on the Mediterranean, has 300 days of sunshine per year.
A visit to the Sierra Espuna is a must, you can also enjoy the less energetic walks through the marina and promenades where you can stop and absorb the local community at play.
Cartagena and Mazarrón are two other important coastal towns in the region, for those who love to shop and enjoy the taste of the city life, Murcia and Cartegena are full of cultural sites and modern shops
Golf is a popular pastime for visitors and residents. There are many PGA championship courses such as El Valle which hosted the PGA European Seniors Tour in June 2011, Hacienda del Alamo which is the longest golf course in Spain and the famous La Manga Club.
The Mazarrón/Mazarrón Country Club area:-
Our 2 bedroom, 1 bathroom detached villa with spacious south facing terrace, is located on the newly developed Mazarrón Country Club. When entering the complex, you are welcomed to a stylish strolling boulevard with grass, shrubs and palm trees. Elegant illuminated statues and bench seating ensure a welcome and relaxed feel to the Country Club.
The Country Club is a gated complex with a large tropical communal swimming pool (local fee), tennis courts, petanque pitch and on site restaurant (with Wifi) that ensure the visitor has plenty onsite activities to keep them entertained.
As a result of its history, the streets of Mazarrón contain interesting monuments. Those to consider are its Town Hall and the former Cultural Center, which are of the Modernist style and stand as indications of the splendour of the beginning of the century.
Behind the town hall is the church of San Andres (16th century) with a beautiful Mudejar coffered ceiling and nearby, the Convent of La Purisma (the patron saint of the town).
Besides the history, you can also spend a little money by purchasing the wonderful fresh produce grown locally at the MazarrónTown indoor market, at Avda Constitucion which is open Monday to Saturday. There is also an open air market held in the parking area in Plaza del Convento, every Saturday. At the Port there is a weekly Sunday market, held close to the Bus Station where you can buy everything from shoes to bedding.
Of course, the area has an abundance of beautiful beaches which cover all the visitors requirements. There are beaches for young children which are shallow and calm and for the most daring, a nudist beach.
