There you can enjoy the views of Chichester Harbour against the backdrop of the beautiful South Downs. Chichester Harbour (an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty) is home to some delightful Sussex villages. Take a lazy harbour tour from Itchenor or, if you are short of time, the ferry to Bosham, home of the fabled King Cnut and his daughter Gunhilda. Legend has it that Gunhilda was drowned at the Bosham Mill Stream (built by the Romans) and her remains were buried in the village church. King Harold sailed for France from Bosham, an event depicted in the Bayeaux Tapestry. Old Bosham and Bosham Hoe offer delightful photo opportunities at both high and low tide as does Birdham, the village that gives its name to one of the channels that flow into Chichester Harbour.
Houseboats on the Old Canal and yachts moored at Chichester Yacht Basin are two attractions; another is the Chichester Ship Canal.
