Villa Giampa is part of the historical center of Praiano, which consists of a cluster of white houses on the highest area of a steep slope of a hill overlooking the sea. The houses are nestled around the beautiful bell-tower and the eighteenth-century church of San Luca.

In this area of Praiano, almost all the houses date back to the eighteenth century. They feature white façades often decorated with stuccoes, patios below masonry arches sustaining terraces facing the sea, and sloping gardens filled with flowers and citrus trees around. To walk through such extraordinary village, declared World Heritage site by UNESCO, means climbing narrow stairways and pedestrian streets.

The whole area is made for pedestrians, except for the only access street to the main square. Here you will not find streets packed with tourists; all you will see are the kind inhabitants of the place. And you will be able to experience the fascination and authentic beauty of the Amalfi Coast: one not changed by the actions of tourism!

Villa Giampa lies in a secluded position, having been built chiefly on a rocky steep slope. Once you have crossed the entrance gate, a beautiful white staircase - flanked with pots full of flowers - will lead you up on a terrace which is the access to both the house and a second larger terrace (through an external flight of steps).

Villa Giampa will enchant you for sure! You'll face only the blue of the sky and the sea, while both sides show the green coastal outline spotted with the typical white houses in Praiano.

Further details indoors

The interior of Villa Giampa is distributed on the same floor. It consists of large rooms with thick walls and high vaulted ceilings, typical of the eighteenth-century houses of the coast. Such traits render the house naturally airy even during summer.

The living-room is a large room illuminated by a large arched glass window which takes the whole wall. Through such window all you can see is the sea and the sky.

In the living-room you will have a double divan bed, armchairs, a table with chairs, an angle furnished as a home bar, and a beautiful stone fireplace. Next to the living-room there is the spacious and beautiful kitchen, where you will have a five-burner stove, an oven, a large fridge with freezer, a dishwasher, and small electrical appliances. Near the living-room, you will have a bathroom with shower which also features a washing machine.

A small corridor separates the living-room from the three bedrooms. The bedrooms are spacious, with a double bed and a single bed in all of them. Each bedroom has its own bathroom with shower. Two bedrooms have a gracious small private terrace overlooking the sea. The third bedroom features a window.

Furnishings are pleasant, complete and well cared for.

The Amalfi Coast region

Campania region is the beginning of the 'mezzogiorno'. Translating as the 'midday' the phrase evokes the sun-baked south. And Campania - with its ancient Greek and Roman towns, rumbling volcanoes and glittering blue coastline, at times evokes Classical Greece as much as modern Italy. You could be a million miles from bureaucratic and businesslike Milan.

Throughout much of its history Campania has been at the centre of Western Civilisation's most significant entities. The area was colonised by Ancient Greeks and was within Magna Græcia, until the Roman Republic began to dominate. During the Roman era the area was highly respected as a place of culture by the emperors, where it balanced Greco-Roman culture. The area had many duchies and principalities during the Middle Ages, in the hands of the Byzantine Empire and some Lombards.

It was under the Normans that the smaller independent states were brought together as part of a sizeable European kingdom, known as the Kingdom of Sicily, before the mainland broke away to form the Kingdom of Naples. It was during this period that especially elements of Spanish, French and Aragonese culture touched Campania. Later the area became the central part of the Two Sicilies under the Bourbons, until the Italian unification of 1860 when it became part of the new state Italy.

The capital city of Campania is Naples. Campania is rich in culture, especially in regards to gastronomy, music, architecture, archeological and ancient sites such as Pompeii, Herculaneum and Paestum. The name of Campania itself is derived from Latin, as the Romans knew the region as Campania felix, which translates into English as "fortunate countryside". The rich natural sights of Campania make it highly important in the tourism industry, especially along the Amalfi Coast, Cilento Coast, Mount Vesuvius and the island of Capri.

Praiano

Villa Giampa is part of the historical centre of Praiano, which consists of a cluster of white houses on the highest area of a steep slope of a hill overlooking the sea. The houses are nestled around the beautiful bell-tower and the eighteenth-century church of San Luca.

In this area of Praiano, almost all the houses date back to the eighteenth century. Here you will not find streets packed with tourists; all you will see are the kind inhabitants of the place. And you will be able to experience the fascination and authentic beauty of the Amalfi Coast: one not changed by the actions of tourism!

Villa Giampa is located in a pedestrian area a few feet away from a street where you will find shops and a bus stop. In order to reach this street, all you have to do is walk along a pedestrian stairway consisting of 42 steps for about 150 meters (about 492 feet).

You don’t need a car during your stay at Villa Giampa, but in case you have one, you can book a parking space in a parking lot.

The beach

During your stay at Villa Giampa, you will be close to one of the most typical beaches of the Amalfi Coast, the beach of Praia. The beach spreads from the base of a narrow gorge enclosed by high rocky walls deeply incised by erosion.

To reach the beach you can take the local bus which stops about 150 meters (approximately 400 feet) away from the villa.

However, don’t miss the chance of going to beach on foot at least once if you are in good shape: you can descend from the villa until the State Road through shortcuts consisting of stairways. Once you have crossed the State Road, you will have to go along a picturesque pedestrian foot path goes past the medieval Tower and descends towards the sea through a trail dug along the rocks. The breathtaking scenery will compensate the workout to go along the way. Rendering the walk even more pleasant, once you have arrived at the beach, are the small bars and restaurants which feature tables on rocks caressed by the waters of the sea…

The local minibus stops at the beach of Praia, Praiano and Positano.

Other larger nearby beaches are those in Amalfi and the one in Positano, about 7 km (approximately 4.3 miles) away.
