The South Wales region

The Principality of Wales is on the western side of the United Kingdom. Swansea and the South Wales valleys have known their fair share of heavy industry, Copper mining gave Swansea its wealth in Victorian times and coal from the South Wales valleys was used to extract the metal from its ore. This means there is a significant amount of industrial heritage in the area, but this vies for historical interest with castles, natural landmarks and poets and artists such as Dylan Thomas and Ceri Richards. Ceri Richards was born in Dunvant, and his grave can be found in the local chapel in Dunvant Square.

Swansea is known as the festival city, and the name is well deserved. with the Gower Folk Festival, Swansea Festival of Transport and Gower Cycling Festival, to name but a few. The area is renowned for its beautiful beaches, many of which allow dogs all year round, and ready access to the motorway means that you can explore the local area further as well.
