The house is situated in South Touraine, near the edge of Berry and Poitou provinces. Taking place in Descartes, birth place of the well-known physicist and philosophe, it allows nice stay with a lot of distractions: discovering the land around (Chateaux de la Loire, Futuroscope of Poitiers, landscapes of Touraine and Berry, archeological place of Le-Grand-Pressigny, historical and nice small town of Loches.....), a lot of sports: cannoying on the river "La Creuse", tennis, walking, cyclism, horse-riding, golf not so far, etc, a swimming place is available at a large pool near the river (500 m of the house) and in a private place behind the house. A lot of birds may be observed .....
The house is typical of Touraine country in the end of 18th century, but renovated with all the confort: one bathroom and 2 shower rooms, central heating, isolated windows, a swimming pool available in all seasons . A small garden furnished with a table and chairs, a few roses bushes: Le Notre, Pierre de Ronsard, open at will on the swimming pool allows quiet afternoon and dinner.
The small town, Descartes (less than 4000) is furnishing all the commodities: cinema, mediatheque, market place on sunday, church, 2 supermarkets, many farms offering typical cheese, fruits (apples) are available in the surrounding campaign, while a shop in the town is specialized in offering regional products.

About this location
The Loire Valley region
Situated in the south part of Touraine, the little town of Descartes in the river La Creuse valley offers a lot of activities: boating, swimming, walking or biking to see the historical places near there. From the prehistoric museum in Le-Grand-Pressigny (10km), the city of Loches and the philosopher René Descartes museum in his natal house. The wellknown "microclimat" of Touraine is very adapted for children as it is neither too hot nor cold. The sky has a particular blue color wich inspired writers : Balzac, Ronsard, Alfred de Vigny whose natal house or chosen place are open to visits.
Touraine and Poitou are very typical of the french way of life and allow a lot of visits

More

"A Jewel in the Crown gives you a real taste of France"
We stayed in this Old 18th Century house which is typically French and has been sympathetically renovated by the Owner. Situated in the pretty village of Descartes, the nearby tourist information with free carpark had very helpful staff. Walking distance to the local shops, restaurants and bars selling fresh produce, all of which are again typically French. The Sunday and night markets are a must. Larger supermarkets are about 2 miles away. The house has many rooms and plenty of history. Our children loved the safe indoor pool and adjacent secluded courtyard garden. The cellar is work in progress but will add to the home comforts when complete. We found the house a great place to enable us to explore the local villages and amenities.
Our goal was to get a real taste of France and our expectations were exceeded at Les Vigneaux
We indeed, as it is said, renewed this old house, with the help of craftsmen wishing to maintain the local skills (tiled floors of old clay, coating of lime + sand, hemp thermal insulation, usw..) while maintaining the original aspect of Touraine. Maybe it was disturbing for somebody used to modern housing. That could explain the "terrible" and ununderstandable review the house obtain last week.

"TripAdvisor should not be recommending this dirty, inadequate property"
TripAdvisor's offer of this property is a total misrepresentation of the actual state of the holiday rental. Examples:-Only one room out of twelve was adequately cleaned, most being filthy. (We… More
I am very sorry. I am renting this house since july, and nobody complains. I am now obliged to change the cleaning service, the lady who was in charge of it has retired. But, I called another cleaning service which is well known. And, I have controlled myself the cleaning of the house (sleeping rooms, bath rooms, kitchen ). We have still to tidy the basement but it is not a part of the location. I hope this comment is an error
