Recent customer reviews include:
"Fantastic location, peaceful yet only a walk to the boulangerie and amenities of Descartes. There are plenty of chateaux within driving distance and we could have easily found things to do for a 2-week stay!"
"There was a wealth of local information and places to visits in the gite. The personal touch from both of you was exceptional and made us feel very welcome. I would love to return year after year with so many places to visit."
"We've had a wonderful stay here at Le Bouchet. It's been like home from home, very comfortable and extremely well equipped. Our children (0-5 1/2 yrs) have loved the pool as have we!
Sue and Trevor have been lovely hosts - thank you for all your hard work, you've made this a fantastic place for a holiday!"
"Trevor and Sue made us very welcome and pointed us in the right direction when we needed help (Thank you).
Great swimming pool; the children spent a large amount of time in it!!
See you again."
"At Le Bouchet, you really feel like you are staying in the middle of nowhere. Sitting in the garden, looking at the stars and listening to the frog chorus and grasshoppers is such an amazing way to relax. However, Descartes, the local town, is less that five minutes drive away and has everything you might need (including three supermarkets). In this part of France there are old towns, chateaux, lakes, forests, canoes, bicycles to hire, animals parks and a fabulous theme park (Futuroscope). They are all easily accesible on largely empty roads with beautiful fields all around."
"Trevor and Sue are very good hosts. They were on hand whenever we needed help and advice. They made it easy for our party, of non-fluent French speakers, to have a superb holiday. Our children enjoyed meeting their goats, dogs and chickens, and on one occasion a praying mantis! I can't recommend this house highly enough."

The Loire Valley region
There are of course many beautiful and grand Loire Chateaux to be seen in our region, in fact there are more than sixty chateaux spread right across the Loire valley in the three ancient regions of Touraine, Anjou and Orléanais.
But with over sixty Loire Chateaux to choose from which do you decide to visit?
The chateaux in the Touraine region are all easily reached within an hours drive from Le Bouchet and the Touraine region is home to some of the grandest and most well known of them, including Chenonceau, Villandry, Azay le Rideau and Ussé, the inspiration for the original castle in the fairytale of Sleeping Beauty.
The Loire Valley is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and there are many wonderful towns and villages to explore many of them having played a very influential part in the history of France.
Loches, with its chateau and impressive dungeon, was once considered the capital of France itself and is only twenty five minutes away from Le Bouchet.
Tours, the capital of the Touraine region is only forty five mintes from Le Bouchet and has a magnifient cathedral situated in the old quarter with its historic side streets and buildings and there are various markets throughout the year that together with the modern shopping areas provide the perfect opportunity to shop til you drop!
Although Le Bouchet is in the Touraine region of the Loire Valley we are also close to the border of the Poitou Charente region which provides an ideal opportunity to explore the department of Vienne, which has many splendid tourist attractions and even more pretty and attractive towns and villages!
The Futuroscope theme park is only 45 minutes from Le Bouchet and is a theme park like no other and an ideal attraction for all ages.
Chatellerault, our local "big town" is only twenty five minutes away and just beyond Chatellerault are the delightful sandy beaches at the lake in Saint Cyr
Less than an hour away away is the Maison Du Parc in the Brenne National Park where you can find out about this amazing landscape of a thousand lakes. The lakes are all practically man made being created by the monks in the Middle Ages to farm carp. The area is now an important wildlife area and walks and cycle routes allow many different birds, butterflies, dragonflies and all sorts of wildlife including pine marten and wild cats to be spotted and enjoyed. There are guided walks throughout the year, some of which are conducted in English.
Of course, our region has so much more to offer you beyond the normal tourist attractions of the Loire Chateaux and the theme park at Futuroscope; locally there are many picture perfect towns and villages just waiting to be discovered.
Cycling is a great way to see the local area, with many routes providing wonderful country views and the opportunity to discover some of those pretty local villages. Descartes, with its bars, restaurants, supermarkets and water park is just a five minute cycle ride away down the hill!
Around our local area there are many forests, woods and walks where you can appreciate the local flora and fauna - deer are common visitors and of course wild boar do roam but are seldom seen. Quite frankly, the wildlife in this region is spectacular and even in the immediate vicinity of Le Bouchet the noise from the buzzards 'mewing' overhead mixing with the rather loud frog chorus from the lakes and the buzz from the grasshoppers can be quite deafening! Only to be replaced in the evening by the chatter of the cicadas in Le Bouchet wood! Peace and quite of the countryside? Mmmm? At night the sky is literally overwhelming with the view of the stars - with very little light pollution the sky at night can be amazing with the Milky Way very visible.
Twenty minutes away at Azay le Ferron is Haute Touche, France's largest wildlife reserve is home to the breeding programs for some of the world's most endangered species and makes a great day out with a picnic and your bikes (yes you get to cycle around the animals in the reserve - mind the lions!). A visit is highly recommended and makes for a wonderful day out.
Grand Pressigny, only ten minutes away is a pretty village that houses the Museum of Pre-History and a visit is a great way to find out about the history of the stone-age era which has been so important in shaping the regions history.
Of course you can check out our website which has loads of information about things to see and do in the area and La Laiterie has a "tourist" folder that we try and keep as up to date as possible that has details of activities and tourist attractions in the region and there is an excellent Tourist Office in Descartes and the lady in charge speaks English, where you can find out about anything we may have missed together with the latest information about markets and other events in the area.

"Great accommodation in beautiful country"
We stayed here with our two teenaged kids in July 2014. Great accommodation - lots of space. The kitchen is well equipped - we ate in most nights and usually sat out on the outdoor tables near the pop… More

We've been to this area before. This was by far the best and most well equipped Gite we have been in. The owners were extremely helpful and made our stay great. The entire property location is very well maintained with gardens and private terraces. The locale is very rural so don't expect a raucous night life. However if you are after total relaxation this is the place. The countryside is beautiful and the food and wine is great. It's obvious that the region is suffering from the economic downturn though this highlighted the hospitality of the local people. There is plenty to do around the area and you can pick how much or how little you want to do. The support of the owners to all our needs made it a fantastic trouble free rest. Can't recommend this place highly enough.
