Le Verger
About the home
Nestling in rolling countryside between the Rivers Creuse and Vienne, on the border of the historic Touraine and Poitou regions, La Belardiere was a working farm until the early 1990s. Today, the barns have been carefully restored to combine both character and classic features with luxurious holiday accommodation. You can’t help but relax in this haven of peace and tranquillity and yet you are within very easy reach of numerous attractions, activities and beautiful places.
Le Verger, a spacious and luxurious 5 bedroom/4 bathroom barn conversion, is the larger of our two gites. The property is perfect for family or large group holidays.
On the ground floor, which is tiled throughout, is a large open-plan kitchen/dining area with a fully equipped kitchen and seating for up to 10 people. The lounge area is light and airy with exposed beams and a mezzanine floor. The spacious en-suite twin room is suitable for guests with limited mobility.
Upstairs are two double en-suite rooms and two twin rooms sharing a large family bathroom. All bedrooms are spacious and light with wooden floors and original beams.
Step outside from the kitchen/diner onto a private decking/BBQ area, enjoying a sunny, south-facing orientation and views over open countryside. The pool area (fenced for security) is a few yards away and the large orchard provides plenty of space for children (and adults!) to play. Garden games are available. The property benefits from WiFi access and satellite TV.

Enquire nowThe Loire Valley / Indre-et-Loire region
The imposing River Creuse marks the border of the famous Touraine and Poitou regions. At one time, during the reign of Richard the Lionheart, it actually marked the border between England and France! Its is an area steeped in history and rich in heritage. The famous chateaux of the Loire Valley – now a World Heritage Site – are within easy reach.
Pretty villages, some with fascinating cave dwellings, proliferate in the region. With the network of rivers, rolling countryside and forest tracks, there are leisure activities and opportunities to enjoy nature for everyone's taste. And for lovers of food and wine, this is a dream. Traditional markets galore, produce of the highest quality, classic restaurants and, of course, the vineyards of the Loire.
This is rural France, ‘La France Profonde', at its very best!
The Descartes / St Remy sur Creuse area
The village of St Remy sur Creuse is 2 km away, or a picturesque 30 minutes walk through the woods. The settlement dates back a thousand years and is the site of a fascinating series of cave dwellings set into the rocks above the main village. Guided visits are available and there are a number of organised events throughout the year.
The village also boasts a newly refurbished Auberge, offering a range of traditional cuisine at very reasonable prices – or simply a refreshing drink as you watch the world go by.
The larger towns of Descartes (birthplace of philosopher Rene Descartes) and Dange St Romain (both 5 km) offer a full range of facilities including supermarkets, boulangeries, pharmacies, and banks. Bustling Descartes market, held on Sunday mornings, draws people from miles around and is a real social event.
