The Costa Blanca / Valencia / Alicante Province region

The Costa Blanca is a coastal area of fertile agricultural land with outstanding beaches and backed by mountains and valleys of wonderful rugged beauty. The climate is sunny and mild in the winter and hot in the summer months. Magical scenery is all around and roads are mostly quiet except in high summer. Travelling up and down the coast is very easy on the A7 toll road, allowing day visits to Benidorm, Alicante, Valencia, Murcia and Elche.
The towns and villages show styles derived from early moorish architecture as well as medeivel christian kings and castles abound. Once out of your car and walking through the narrow streets, a whole new world opens up. January is often sunny and dry, but days are short. February is wetter but has the great bonus of hundreds of almond trees in full flower: pink and white blossom in every valley. March has the festival of the Fallas when many towns build large structures of satirical figures, some 18 feet high and then burn them on the 19 March along with a very noisy and spectacular fireworks display and marching bands. March/april is the time for Easter parades and wild flowers on the hillsides.
The summer months are sunny and often hot with lots of fiestas in every town and village.
Of the many places to visit there is the Jalon valley, Guadeleste, Fonts D'Algar and several coastal towns, all of different character. Valencia city is always vibrant and full of interest and easy and cheap to get to by train.
The Denia / Pedreguer area
Denia is a lively Spanish town with two good beaches and a large selection of shops and cafe/ bars. There is a very good variety of restaurants of all types with fresh fish arriving on the local quay every weekday. You can catch the ferry to Ibiza from here.
Pedreguer is a large village with a lively atmosphere and good markets and supermarkets. A Karting track has recently been updated and a golf course and tennis club is close at hand at La Sella. The popular family holiday resort of Javea has something for everyone and has two beaches of fine sand and outstanding restaurants. Calpe has a wonderful beach and promenade and excellent bars and restaurants.
For a day away from the beach we recommend the Safari park off the N332 on the way north to Oliva for those who have small children. For the older children there is the waterpark, Munderma or Terra Mitica near Benidorm 25mins away and the city itself with its beautiful old town and marvelous promenade on Levante beach, surely of of the most outstanding beaches in the whole of Spain.
