The Costa Blanca / Valencia / Alicante Province region
Our villa is located in a lovely part of the northern Costa Blanca, with a rugged coastline, many beautiful white sandy beaches, scenic mountains dotted with unspoilt Spanish villages and a lush landscape. Guaranteed summer sun, large expanses of gleaming sand leading into warm seas together with water sports facilities, golf courses, boutiques and excellent restaurants makes Costa Blanca a wonderful experience for all.
In July and August, the average temperature is 30oC, but the heat is dry and is especially enjoyable by the pool with a supply of iced drinks. In winter, the average temperature is 17-20oC, very pleasant compared with the UK, and great for a winter break.
Most villages hold a weekly market, where you can find a wide range of goods at bargain prices.
There are so many Spanish fiestas on the Costa Blanca, you are bound to see one wherever you are, whatever time of year. Each area, city and town has it's own accent on it's celebrations. They all differ but in common they all portray life, colour, culture, music and dance, all with a very religious meaning. Everywhere, processions make their way through the streets, carrying religious icons and symbols of their faith. If you have the opportunity to sample these festivities, one thing is sure, the images will stay with you forever.
Denia / Pedreguer area
Local activities include swimming, tennis, walking, sailing, cycling, fishing, horse riding, golf, wind-surfing, water-skiing, mountain biking and the famous ‘Limon Express’ coastal railway.
Denia is a lovely cosmopolitan town on the north east coast. The views from the 16th century Moorish castle are outstanding. Denia is a working port - the old fishermen's quarter preserves its delightful cobbled streets and whitewashed buildings, but nearby you'll find a modern yacht marina and the ferry terminal serving Ibiza. Shopping in Denia is a delight, including top of the range clothes shops and gift shops specialising in the unusual and exquisite. A myriad of restaurants offers some of the best regional and international cuisine on the Costa Blanca.
Pedreguer is a typical Spanish market town, and offers visitors the chance to discover beautiful ancient buildings such as the 16th century parish church of Santa Cruz. Outside the town centre lies the Sant Blai chapel, from which there are wonderful views.
There is a huge shopping centre, Postal de la Marina, nearby. It has a hypermarket, a wide range of shops and restaurants, bowling, an 8-screen cinema and plenty of parking.
Gata de Gorgos has a fine selection of cane, rush and wickerwork articles.
La Sella boasts the luxurious 5-star Marriott hotel and an 18-hole golf course designed by Jose Maria Olazabal. You can also go horse riding and play tennis.
The Jalon Valley has magnificent mountains, unspoilt villages and plains of olive trees, orange groves, vineyards and almonds. In late January and February, the valley is covered with pink and white almond blossom and is very picturesque and scented.
Javea is a jewel in the Costa Blanca which has preserved all the charm of an ancient fishing village. The house fronts are adorned with wrought iron grills and Gothic style windows that provide a noble touch to the labyrinth of streets and diminutive plazas. Javea has one of the most attractive sea ports in the Mediterranean. Many restaurants and cafes look out over the wonderful white sandy beach at El Arenal.
Moraira is a delightful, picturesque, coastal town south of Javea, 20 minutes from the villa. It has a lovely port, several seafront restaurants and cafes, a sandy beach and a great market.
Calpe, 30 minutes away, boasts the spectacular Penon de Ifach, a rocky outcrop that is a familiar symbol of the northern Costa Blanca. The views from the top are breathtaking. Calpe’s two beaches are lovely and the town has many varied shops and eating places.
Altea, between Calpe and Benidorm, has cobblestoned streets and steps, flanked by whitewashed houses. The fishermen’s quarter, enlivened by a seafront promenade and a port, keeps the town busy. Along streets and around plazas, craftsmen and artists mingle with holidaymakers and neighbours to form a captivating crowd.
Benidorm is well worth a day’s visit. There are three great theme parks too – Terra Mitica (built around Mediterranean civilizations), Aqualandia water park and Mundomar sea life centre.
