The Costa Blanca / Valencia / Alicante Province region
GENERAL AREA INFORMATION
The Costa Blanca has the best all year round temperatures due to its unique micro climate. They say that in Costa Blanca, the sun spends winter and the breeze spends summer.
The climate is recognised as one of the best in the world by the World Health Organisation. Many people with arthritis come to the Costa Blanca and within days feel much better. In the winter months the Costa Blanca is lucky enough to have nearly as many sunny days as in the summertime.
The Costa Blanca has over 100 kms of sandy beaches and rocky coves and many of the beaches have the coveted European Blue Flag signifying cleanliness and safe bathing. The northern Costa Blanca is typically mountainous with cliffs and coves, a mixture of pebble beaches and fine sandy beaches.
With many small, traditional villages and cosmopolitan towns, Costa Blanca north really has something for everyone.
Denia / Pego area
PEGO Pego is in a valley facing the sea, to the north of Alicante province. The climate provides for an agricultural area specialised in the cultivation of citric fruit and rice, creating the perfect Spanish retreat location. As you travel to your apartment, you will pass near orange groves and be sure in early summer to wind down your window to smell the sweet aroma of the orange blossom.
Pego is a traditional Spanish village, which is rich with local history, evident in the local architecture of the older buildings and impressive churches.
It is the ideal location for anyone looking to ´get away from it all`and relax, although have plenty nearby to keep you interested. Whether you are into long walks (of which there are plenty!) or sampling the local cuisine, Pego has much at hand. You do not even have to drive in the evenings, just simply meander into town for a drop of the local hospitality! (or two!) The beach is a short drive away, whereby you have 10kms of fine sand to completely chill out and take in the sun.
DENIA and JAVEA
Dénia is a coastal city located to the north of the province of Alicante and has a 20-kilometre coastline, made of small, beautiful coves. To the north there are the fine sandy beaches of Les Marines and Les Bovetes and the shingle beaches of Les Deveses and L' Almadrava beaches, which are craggy and rocky; to the south is the Les Rotes beach. Though the beaches are long, they are not enormous and generally appeal to family-type tourism. Denia is very Spanish and buzzes with atmosphere, especially in the summer months. It is great in the evenings to wonder along the large marina and take in the scenery or walk to the old castle where the views are imposing. If you fancy a day trip from here, you are able to get the ferry from Denia port to Ibiza at a reasonable rate.
A picturesque town 20 minutes drive from Denia through the Montgo National Park, Javea has much to offer. Spread out over a large area, there are coves to discover, cultural and historical sites and wonderful walks. The town is divided into three distinct sections. There is the old town, with its narrow cobbled streets and its monuments of Spanish history and culture. The port area is still a working fishing port and is a delightful place to visit with its mixture of fish markets and seafront bars and cafes. Javea comes alive at night with a cosmpolitan twist. There are some wonderful bars and restaurants to be found on Arenal beach and even one or two night spots for those that want to continue the fun into the evening. Local Tourist Attractions - The terrain of the Montgo and Jalon valleys provide the perfect environment for mountain biking and walking. The stunning waterfalls at the Fonts d'Algar are a 40 minute drive from the apartment. The area also has a superb camp site and several restaurants and cafes. Valencia is less than an hour away by car or an hour and half by train from Gandia (30 minutes from the apartment). Enjoy a day of shopping around the variety of markets and boutiques or simply spend the day exploring the city and its museums.
MORAIRA
Moraira is in a lush valley planted with vines. The Mountains behind the town are dramatic with orange groves and almond trees in the foothills. The coast is rocky but with sandy coves and lovely coastal footpaths. The hustle & bustle and drama of the coast sits in with the complete contrast of the tranquillity and tradition of the countryside just a few kilometres inland. This quality of life is incomparable in Europe. Moraira has grown from a fishing village to a small but exclusive year-round holiday destination popular with visitors from across Europe. There is now an impressive marina packed with yachts and a large variety of restaurants, bars and shops to satisfy the tastes of visitors and residents alike. Strict planning laws have prevented the building of high rise hotel and apartment blocks which has resulted in Moraira retaining the charm of its fishing village heritage and sets it apart from other Costa Blanca resorts.
LOCAL ACTIVITIES Other activities available locally include cycling, diving, fishing, golf, horse riding, mountain biking, mountaineering, paragliding, quad-biking, roller blading, sailing, scuba diving, surfing, tennis, walking, water skiing, wind-surfing.
TO SUMMARISE Only 10 mins walk to Pego village. 15 mins drive to Denia. 30 mins drive to the valleys of Jalon and Orba. 1 hour on motorway to Terra Mitica (Theme park), Aqualandia (Water park) & Mundomar (Sea world). Numerous local markets, fiestas and bull runs. Only 6 kms to nearest beach. Golf nearby at La Sella or Oliva Nova
An ideal choice for a holiday or long term rental that will appeal to people of all ages.
