Denia is situated on the Costa Blanca, midway between the cities of Valencia and Alicante - both have an abundance of museums, interesting architecture, designer clothes shops and good value leather goods.
The Costa Blanca has a breathtaking mixture of scenery, from mountains to olive/citrus groves, leading down to the Mediterranean sea. The favourable climate sees summer temperatures rise to 32c with daytime winter temperatures rarely falling below 13c.
Whether you are looking for an active or relaxing holiday, young or old, this area has a good variety of activities to suit everyones taste, age and budget.
Attractions in the local area include the Oliva Nova (Ballesteros) Championship Golf Course (10km) and La Sella (Olazabal) Championship Golf Resort, La Vergel Safari Park (12km), go-karting (5km), Terra Mitica Adventure Park, Aqualandia Water Park, Mundomar (marine and exotic animal park) all within a 40 minute drive South towards Alicante.
To the North of Denia is the lovely city of Valencia which has the largest marine park in Europe called L'Oceanográfico as well as being a centre for art and culture.
Inland to the West is the ancient village and stunning castle of Guadalest situated in a commanding position highup above an impressive reservoir. Nearby are Les Fonts de l'Algar - The Algar Waterfalls. A series of natural pools and waterfalls supplied by natural springs and surrounded by the characteristic reeds, bamboo and various types of vegetation common to the area.
Denia / Las Rotas area
Las Rotas is within a conservation area that is 3 km from the hussle and bussle of Denia town. It is easy to get to by either car or the frequent local bus service, which runs along the coast from Las Rotas to Denia town and onto Las Marinas.
Shopping in Denia is located in the main central street, Calle Marques de Campo. This is a wonderful place to sit and relax in the many cafes which occupy this Parisian - style tree lined avenue. As well as offering the high street essentials, there are some exquisite boutiques and gift shops
Denia’s Blue Flag beaches are of remarkable beauty and it has a historic centre, where the castle rises majestically in the centre of the town. Mount Montgo, declared a Natural Park, is only a few metres from the sea. The local fishing boats come and go whilst they mark the rhythm of everyday life and provide Denia with the best produce of the sea, ensuring gastronomic delights for all.
Local activites could include: - a gentle climb to the castle with its excellent museum, a wander through the narrow cobbled streets of the old town quarters, a visit to the excellent weekly Monday market (all year), a walk in Montgo Natural Park or just watching the boats arrive and unload their fresh produce to the fish exchange then trade with the local restaurants and hoteliers.
Denia's classic historic old town sits comfortably with its recently completed prestigeous new marina, housing a variety of luxury boats complemented by a variety of bars, restaurants and boutiques. During the summer as the sun goes down Denia comes to life with a lively evening market with many jewellery, music and arty stalls. Boredom is a word that just doesn’t fit into Denia’s vocabulary the town boasts cocktail bars, pubs, discos, theatres and terraces bordering the sea providing live music.
Enjoy the contrast of sandy beaches and rocky coves. Practice nautical sports all year round include sailing, rowing, canoeing, scuba diving, windsurfing, kite-surfing, water skiing, sport fishing and jet skiing or perhaps just admire the aquatic delights of the clear crystal waters with a snorkle and mask.
On land there are plenty of opportunities to play golf, tennis or squash, go trail walking in Mount Montgo Natural Park or go horse riding.
Denia is well known for its many fiestas throughout the year www.denia.net/uk/seccion/fiestas/calendario.asp
The fiesta of the "Fallas" is the largest fiesta held between 16-19th March where huge papier mache effigies are erected throughout the town then burnt in a spectacular bonfire party. June 20-24th is the "Fogueres de San Juan" fiesta culminates large bonfires on the beach echoing the pagan rituals of celebrating midsummer night. The Moors and Christians fiesta 14-16th August provides spectacular street parades recalling the many hundreds of years of Moorish occupation in this part of Spain.
