The Costa Blanca / Valencia / Alicante Province region
Denia is situated in the east of Mainland Spain at the northern end of the Costa Blanca, approximately 90kms from Valencia and 85 kms from Alicante. The 20km of coastline has scenic rocky coves, wonderful beaches and dramatic cliffs. Denia has been voted 'environmentally near perfect' by the World Health Organization and boasts 320 days of sunshine a year!
For those who don't just want to relax, sunbathe, eat and drink you could tr a walk in the Montgo National Park. The summit of the Montgo is 753 meters and the 360 degree views from the summit are stunning. Ibiza can be seen to the East.
A short drive away you will find Jalon and Orba. Try some of the locally produced wines including the famous Moscatel at the local bodegas. Explore the winding streets and drive through the Jalon valley. This is the real Spain not to be missed.
El Vergel is a local safari park about 15 mins drive from Denia and makes an enjoyable day out. Also recommended is a visit to the animal sanctuary in Guadalest. Benidorm is home to terra natura another animal park.
A 30 minute drive south from Denia will bring you to the mega resort of Benidorm. Young and old alike will enjoy Terra Mitica, Aqualandia and Mundomar. Benidorm Palace makes an excellent choice for a show and a meal.
Denia's sea bed makes it a paradise for scuba divers whilst others might enjoy windsurfing or sailing.
Mediterranean Cuisine - Denia is known as the Gastronomic Capital of the Costa Blanca. It offers such culinary delights as the very popular all-i-oli (garlic and olive oil sauce) served with fresh bread. Denia is famous for its tasty Prawn and it is considered the best by gourmet experts. Why not visit el Pegolis the famous fish restaurant overlooking the bay a culinary experience not to be missed.
Denia area
Denia is a lively old historic town with its castle, port, fish market and many shops. Sandy beaches abound as do rocky spots ideal for snorkelling. Many Fiestas takeplace throughout the year both in Denia and in many nearby villages. There are some spectacular parades and firework display not to be missed.
Denia is surrounded by orange groves and looks longingly out to a crystal clear blue sea, it sits on the shore of a special stretch of the Mediterranean. Palm trees line the promenades, terraces adorn the seafront, the port and beaches beckon to be discovered and the awesome Montgó mountain rises majestically behind the town.
Stroll along the Calle Marqués de Campo, the hub of Denia town life and trade, lined with authentic bars, restaurants, boutiques and pavement cafés.
This remains first and foremost a Spanish working town where the locals will always out number the tourists and fishing boats abound in the harbour.
In the fishing port you can watch the boats come back in the late afternoon to auction off the catch. Enjoy this fresh seafood in one of the many excellent local restaurants or visit the indoor food market open six mornings a week where fresh vegetables, meat and fish can be bought directly from the farmers and fishermen.
Denia has retained the qualities of "old Spain" while providing all the amenities of a modern cosmopolitan town.
Denia is the only port on the Costa Blanca offering ferries to the Balearic islands of Mallorca, Ibiza, Menorca and Formentera.
La Sella Golf Course is near the village of Jesus Pobre. The course has 18 holes, par 72 and is 6,029 metres. The course although flat has many trees and water obstacles and presents a very good challenge. Within 10 minutes drive of the house is Javea Golf Club situated between Moraira and Javea and is open all year round. The course is a 9 hole, par 72 and 3,035 metres.
The course is easy to play and relatively flat. Both Javea and La Sella clubs have tennis and squash courts. Within a half hour drive north in Oliva is Oliva Nova Golf Club, designed by Seve Ballesteros. This testing course has18 holes, par 72 and 7,051 metres. Further afield you have the two championship courses near Benidorm which were opened in 2006 and which provide excellent tests for all golfers.
