The Mallorca/Majorca region
Deia is located on the northwest coast of Mallorca between Valdemosa and Soller, approximately 30km from the cosmopolitan capital of the Balearic Islands, Palma de Mallorca. Valdemosa is famous because of its links with the composer Chopin and Soller with its French influence as a result of the ports trade in locally grown oranges.
Deia area
Deia is one of the jewels of the Mediterranean, with the mountains of the 'Serra de Tramuntana' towering above the village and yet being only a few minutes walk to the sea. As you approach Deia by road from Palma and you round the headland at Sa Pedrissa you are immediately impressed by the beautiful terraced hill sides, which date back to Moorish times and the ancient church which overlooks the village. It is even more impressive to approach the village at night, as the church is flood lit and the lights of the houses twinkle as you approach.
