House | 2 bedrooms | sleeps 4
Stunning detached old village house in a quiet position near to the church in Deia. Although we have recently renovated the house we have kept many original features, decorating with contemporary art and ceramics as well as distinctive furnishings and antiques in Moorish style. The roof terrace and artists studio overlook the village and have breathtaking views of the Teix mountains.
From the house you can wander through the old village streets to all of Deia's famous restaurants and boutiques or take in the church where Robert Graves is buried at the top of the village where there are wonderful views to the sea. The beach is a delightful 20 minute walk through olive and orange groves or a 5 minute drive with easy parking.

Resident's parking is provided a few metres away by the church. Deia is a centre for walkers as well as artists. You can take advantage of many mountain trails to Soller, Valldemossa and beyond. There are idyllic coastal paths leading to the beach and swimming coves along the coast.
Flexible changeover day except Sunday. Arrivals after 2pm. Departure 10:30am. Towels and linen are included. There is a fresh supply of linen each week..
There is an efficient fireplace and central heating for cooler months. There is a travel cot for babies, but adventurous children would find this house a little hazardous.
About this location
The Balearic Islands region
Deia is situated on the north west coast of Mallorca, nestled in the Teix mountains. The old town was built facing the mountains hidden from pirates view from the sea. It was settled by moors who built extensive terraces to grow olives, almonds and citrus fruit and it became an artists haven in the 19th and 20th century. Robert Graves settled here and his family home is now a museum. La Residencia 5 star hotel is situated in the middle of the village and the village has a great selection of restaurants, tapas bars as well as shops and banks. The cala (beach) is a 20 minute walk or 5 minute drive from the village where there are 2 restaurants. The village has a municipal tennis court or you can have lessons at La Residencia's courts.
Valdemossa is a picturesque 15 minute drive. Chopin came to stay in the village. Travelling in the other direction again 15 minutes brings you to the town of Soller which has daily markets, an open tram service to the beach and antique train service to Palma. There is an excellent and inexpensive bus service to Palma, Soller and Valdemossa if you do not rent a car.

"Lovely quirky house"
Stayed here in July/August 2013. Traditional Mallorcan house on 3 floors renovated to a high standard with 3 terraces and a great bathroom. Major drawback is the lack of air conditioning which is a pr… More
I am very grateful for the review, the comments are accurate and helpful. I am not considering air conditioning as I make clear in the house details, as the property is several hundred years old and aesthetically it would ruin the appeal. Several fans and a judicious use of the internal window shutters can keep everything cool in high temperatures.
I have a large gas/electric range which is wonderful for cooking but a barbeque in the village location, where we are, might disturb the peace of those nearby. As far as restaurants are concerned, the Village Cafe, Es Punt and Sa Cova are all very popular and far more reasonable than some of the haute cuisine establishments that Deia is famous for. I think there is something for everyone and the prices and quality in the local markets in Soller and also Palma make cooking at home a pleasure and economical.
To get the best from this coastline, walk along the coastal paths that surround Deia and take a swim from the rocks that jut into the water. The water there is fresher and you can find peaceful spots to sunbathe. Llucalcari and Bens D'Avall are very good for this.

"A village house full of character"
This lovely village house, high on the hill and just below the church in Deia was the perfect place for us. The views of the Tramuntana are spectacular, the walks dramatic and the accommodation, although beautifully modernised, was as full of character and charm as anyone could wish.
There are three floors, the top one housing the 'studio', which leads out onto the sweetest terrace, offering sun, shade and large comfy chairs to relax in.
Good sized bedrooms, a splendid wet room, well equipped kitchen, cosy sitting area and spacious dining room completes the picture of this authentic building, enhanced by the owners own contributions of beautiful pots and artwork.

I felt very at home at Angela's home, a wonderful kitchen, relaxing atmosphere and an amazing studio at the top of the house looking onto the mountains. All very easy and would highly recommend. Would return.

It is a lovely old house which we found it very relaxing and comfortable. Plenty to do in and around Deia and it's easy to get to Soller and Valdemossa.
