The Mallorca/Majorca region

Deya is ideally situated for walking or beach holidays. The climate is very mild with very few really cold or wet periods. Palma with its lovely old town has excellent art galleries, museums, theatre, shops and restaurants all within a 50 minute drive.

Deia area

Deya, or as it is also spelt, Deia, is one of the jewels of the Mediterranean and is certainly the most attractive village in Mallorca. With the towering mountain range of the Serra de Tramuntana as its backdrop, the village, topped by its ancient church, sits on its hill and extends to the valley below. A combination of mountain and stunning views all along the north west coast make this the most attractive and sought after part of the island.
Although small and still retaining a village atmosphere, Deya itself has numerous excellent restaurants, from the most expensive and chic to charming, casual, inexpensive bars and cafes. A small but incredibly well stocked supermarket, a very helpful English speaking chemist, two banks with cash points make Deya a very convenient and relaxing place for a short or long stay. The Patron Saint of Deya is Saint Juan and the festival to commemorate his birth takes place at the end of June each year. Various festivities are organised by the Town Hall and these range from fishing competitions to fireworks! The opportunity to enjoy walks around the village are many and varied. A 30 minute stroll, through the olive and lemon groves, brings you to Cala Deia, the sheltered little cove and beach where fishermen still go out at dawn to cast their nets. The Cala can also be reached by car, but the walk is delightful, just allow more time for the return journey up hill!
The recently opened Robert Graves Museum is a kilometre from the village and is well worth a visit. An excellent film shows the aspects of his life in Mallorca., living in this charming house with its pretty garden, until his death. Art galleries and artisan shops are also to be enjoyed. For those who do not want to hire a car, there is an excellent and frequent bus service. Taxis are easy to book and are relatively inexpensive. Bikes can be hired in Soller, 8 km away.
The market town of Soller has excellent shops, a larger supermarket, a 24 hour health emergency clinic and easy parking. From here the small train goes to Palma on a regular basis. The tram goes from the centre of the town to the Port of Soller, 2 km away. Here you will find a large sandy beach with all the usual facilities, such as sun chairs, pedalos, a big choice of bars and restaurants. Here also you can hire boats or to take a boat trip up or down to coast to other beaches, such as Tuent .

Palma, with its beautiful historic old town and impressive cathedral, is about 45 minutes drive, or an hour by bus, away. In the last few years this has become a buzzing city with excellent shops and restaurants.

Deya is ideally situated for a holiday of any type and whatever the season, in Mallorca
