Ca'n Lan is an ideal - and cosy - house for visiting any time of year.
In summer, because the house is ancient, the walls are extra thick, keeping it cooler than most. Each bedroom is also provided with a fan.
In winter, Ca'n Lan is one of the first houses in Deia to get the morning sun. There is underfloor heating downstairs (as well as a working fireplace in the living room), and radiators upstairs.
The internal and external wooden shutters can also be opened or closed to regulate temperature.
The master bedroom has 2 twin beds, which can be joined together to make a king, en suite shower, wc and 2 sinks. The tower bedroom has a king bed; the third bedroom has a double. The family bathroom has a bath with shower, single sink and wc. Both bathrooms are very luxurious. There is a downstairs wc with sink also.
The fully fitted kitchen has a large indoor barbeque.
The whole house is full of character - for example, it has its own indoor well (though the water comes from the town supply!).
There are games (and a games table) in the living room ; a TV for the large selection of DVDs; and a variety of CDs.
|Further details outdoors|
The spacious terraces have:
as well as a dining table and chairs.
The lower terrace has a plunge pool, 3mx2m.
There is outside lighting and a barbeque as well.
A machine room houses the boiler and the dryer.
A local English-speaking representative will meet you and provide you with keys as well as a parking permit - vital in Deia as there are very few free public parking spaces. She will take care of any of your needs and/or emergencies. You will also receive a welcome pack.
The Balearic Islands region
Mallorca is the largest of the Balearic Islands and has stunning natural beauty. No wonder the Spanish Royal family traditionally spend their summer holidays in Mallorca!
Mallorca is a magical island with a fascinating history, incredible culture and beautiful beaches. Palma is the capital - famous not only for the trendy nightlife and boating jet set (we recently saw a superyacht with its own heli-pad!), but for its extraordinary sights - the cathedral (with some internal work by Gaudi), the Royal Palace, the Arab baths, the Castle de Bellver and so on. It's well worth exploring as much of the island as you can.
Forbes magazine in 2008 included Deia in its list of the 10 most idyllic places to live in Europe. We agree and so do others who lived or visited, including the poet Robert Graves, Richard Branson, Andrew Lloyd Webber, Mick Jagger and Mark Knopfler. The Tramuntana Mountains are spectacular whether to look at or to explore. There are 2400 restaurants in Mallorca but some of the best - there are around 20 all told - are in or near Deia. The Cala (beach), a 5 minute drive away, is beautiful and has a fabulous restaurant for lunch. Soller (Saturday market) and Valldemossa (Carthusian monastery where George Sand and Frederic Chopin spent a winter) are 20 minutes away. The hacienda La Granja, 30 mintes away near Esporles, is another must see attraction. But there is so much more on the island - festivals, caves, vineyards, castles - the list goes on and on.
