The Newfoundland and Labrador region

Around every corner, around every turn in Newfoundland and Labrador, there’s an outdoor adventure waiting to happen. Whether it’s a planned excursion or one that’s anything but, it’s hard to figure out what to experience first.

See the sites from the sea
There’s everything from a gentle paddle around a sheltered bay to one alongside humpback whales and ten thousand year old icebergs. Visit sea caves and remote pebble beaches for a boil-up, or ride the waves along the coast in a sea kayak while you try to catch up with one of our 35 million seabirds.

Take a hike
If you consider yourself a hiker or a dedicated walker, there are literally hundreds of trails across the province, ranging from a short stroll through a park to a multi week-long trek through the wilderness. Our extensive trails include the East Coast Trail, Discovery Trail and Gros Morne National Park.

Where the wild things are
You’ll never have to go looking for wildlife in Newfoundland and Labrador. Over 22 species of whales grace our shores every year, and with over 35 million seabirds and 350 different species, this place is definitely for the birders.

A flurry of activity
This place is a snowmobiler’s paradise, complete with thousands of kilometres of winding, groomed paths or pure powder through the mountains and across the barrens. If you prefer to do your soul searching at high speeds, there’s Marble Mountain – a virtual adrenaline IV that comes with over sixteen feet of the white stuff, yours to carve as you please.

Naturally beautiful
This place is a land like no other. It’s the far east of the western world, with thousands of islands, coves, guts and bays that exude a strange and startling beauty. And it’s home to one of the world’s last great frontiers – Labrador or ‘The Big Land’. With more than 300,000 km² of jaw-dropping wilderness, summer and winter adventures are endless.

Deer Lake / Humber Valley Resort area

Find your joie de vivre on the Port au Port Peninsula, where the descendants of French fishermen who pursued their livelihoods for centuries retain their distinct language and culture. The wonderfully undulating city of Corner Brook makes a great base as you trek across the wild west. And anglers will delight in the city’s most celebrated landmark – or perhaps watermark – the mighty Humber River, for its unparalleled salmon fishing.

Just five minutes east and you’ll be standing at the base of Marble Mountain looking up at a 1,700-foot vertical drop. The area is also a haven for backcountry snowmobiling in the winter and golfing in the summer.

From Corner Brook, you can let the drama prevail at summer theatre festivals in Cow Head or Stephenville. Or, head down to the sandy shores of Burgeo to enjoy a day at the beach where you can sea kayak around the unspoiled coastline in complete serenity.

How to get there

Heathrow to Halifax/Ontario/Montreal all connect to Deer Lake. Some other charters are available from European cities.
