Home description
Porte-Maillot is decorated with style and charm in a casual, colourful, beachy way. The home is a short four minute walk, or a matter of seconds on a bike from the Atlantic Ocean. This perfect vacation house, on DeBordieu’s “Island Green” looks across to the ocean from the front porches and onto a quiet Lagoon in the back from a screened dining porch. Second-floor porches, plus a widow’s walk with an amazing view of the salt marsh and of the ocean complete the scene. Tennis and Golf and a Beach Club with fine dining are all part of the DeBordieu amenities on-site. The front hall's cathedral ceiling and three double French doors let in lots of Southern light to show off Porte-Maillot's colourful furnishings, decorations and antiques collected from the owners' peripatetic lives in South Africa, France and Italy. Downstairs are an open-planned living-room, kitchen, and dining room. A television lounge (with VCR and DVD players) and library are upstairs.

The South Carolina region
The Low Country of South Carolina is steeped in history. Coupled with more than 100 miles of glorious beaches and creeks for swimming, sunning, boating, shelling, fishing and crabbing, as well as golfing on many of the 100 golf courses located in the region areas, it is a delightful vacation region. A product of some of the earliest European settlements in America - Spanish and French explorers arrived in the area in the 16th century - in 1670 a permanent English settlement was established on the coast near present day Charleston. Today, Charleston is one of the most gracious cities in America - Visitors can wander cobblestone streets lined with antique shops and boutiques, browse the Old City Market where Gullah basket ladies are among the vendors that peddle their wares, and peek at private gardens tucked serenely behind iron gates.
By the time of the American Revolution, South Carolina was one of the richest colonies in America. Elegant plantations and gardens derived from the eras of rice, indigo and cotton can be visited. More Revolutionary War battles and skirmishes were fought in South Carolina than any other state, including major engagements at Sullivan's Island, Camden, Kings Mountain, and Cowpens. The Civil War began when Confederate troops fired on Fort Sumter in Charleston Harbor on April 12, 1861.
DeBordieu area
Debordieu is just 10 miles north of Georgetown, with its historic district, and a similar distance south from Pawleys Island, the site of the summer vacation homes of many of the plantation owners in past centuries. With many excellent restaurants and lots and lots of interesting shops, dining and shopping abound,i f you tire of the club's excellent restaurant.
How to get there
35 miles from Myrtle Beach Airport, and 65 miles from Charleston, SC Airport. Many major airlines fly to both airports. Spirit Airlines and Jet Blu are two of the low cost Domestic airlines.
DeBordieu is a peaceful gated community located within 17,000 acres of protected land. Situated between the coastal Highway #17 & and the Atlantic Ocean, its houses border both the salt marsh and the ocean. The wildlife in the community is impressive: alligators, pelicans, turtles (who come to nest in DeBordieu's beautiful dunes), herons, the glorious diversity of the South Carolina Low Country's native species.
