Home description
A stunning 17th century chateau in beautifully landscaped gardens. Domaine du Mont is very close to Honfleur (10 minutes) and Deauville (20 minutes) in Normandy. An ideal base to explore the landing beaches, the Bayeux Tapestry, and Monet's Garden. The Domaine du Mont has beautiful formal rooms, and can sleep up to 16 people. There is also a heated swimming pool with a pool house that used to be the stable block. For larger groups of up to 26 there is a neighbouring farmhouse (to sleep 10) in the grounds that is available for hire in conjunction with the Chateau du Mont. Daily maid service is included in the rental price of the chateau.

The Normandy / Calvados region
Normandy is rich in culture: beaches, old cities, holiday resorts, casinos, and historic sites such as the Bayeux tapestry, the landing beaches, and Monet's garden - all within a reasonable drive of the chateau. There is a small market town about three minutes drive from the chateau. There are two supermarkets in the town, and a great market on Tuesdays. There are several good restaurants there too; however if you drive for a further 10 minutes there are two 1 star michelin restaurants to be found, and another one at Deauville.
Sport: The area is well provided in terms of sports facilities - for both participants and spectators. Normandy is well known as a centre for equine pursuits. There are many studs, including the Aga Khan's, and in the summer there are horse auctions as well as Horse Racing and Polo at Deauville. There is also Horse Riding available locally. If you prefer your feet on the ground, there are many golf courses within 30 minutes of the chateau (including Etratat situated on top of the cliffs overlooking the channel).
Sightseeing: Below are some recommended places to visit during your stay.
Deauville area
Local produce: The food from Normandy is famous throughout the world especially the cheeses such as Camembert, Livarot, and Pont l'Eveque, and Calvados - the apple brandy. However, the French love of good food means that the basic ingredients must be of the highest quality. Seafood is excellent and certain local producers have a renown in the area for quality, taste, and price. One such example is Ferme de la Couterie on your left as you drive from the estate to Beuzeville. Here, butter and eggs can be bought direct from the farm as well as chicken, guinea fowl, etc according to season. Everything is organic/free-range.
Markets: The local markets are excellent and are a major source of food for the locals. The nearest market is in Beuzeville on Mondays; however there are also excellent ones in Honfleur on Saturday, Trouville on Sunday, and Pont Audemer on Monday.
Restaurants: There are numerous restaurants in nearby villages. Our favourites are: - Auberge du Vieux Logis - Comteville (6km). One Michelin Star. - L'Absinthe - Honfleur (14km). Very good restaurant adjacent to the old harbour. - Chez Miocque - Deauville (20km). The place to see and to be seen! - Les Vapeurs - Trouville (20km). Excellent food. - Le Cremaillere - St Maclou (2km). Good food and excellent value.

Further details indoors: The Chateau du Mont is available on its own for groups of up to 16 or in conjunction with the neighbouring farmhouse for groups of up to 26. Room breakdown as follows:
Basement: The garden floor consists of an enormous family room which has direct access to the garden for the summer, and a huge fireplace to sit round for the winter. It also has a large modern kitchen and a large scullery. The family room also has a dining table which can comfortably seat 10-12 people.
Ground floor: The formal rooms of the chateau are found on this floor. There is a large salon, a smaller salon, and the formal dining room which can seat 16. There is a large terrace at the back that overlooks the formal French garden and the fountains. There is a table which can seat 12 for meals on the terrace.
First floor: There are two double bedrooms on this floor and one suite (double with connected salon). All 3 bedrooms have their own en-suite bathroom.
Second floor: There are two twin bedrooms and four double bedrooms on this floor. There are also three separate bathrooms (none of which are en-suite).
Farmhouse: The farmhouse was completely restored to the highest standard in 2005. It consists of three double bedrooms and two twin bedrooms to sleep 10 in total. The double bedrooms all have en-suite bath or shower rooms whilst the two twin bedrooms share a shower room. There is a short gated path that joins the farmhouse to the chateau. It is therefore possible for the same party to hire both properties - in such cases the gates can be opened and access from one property to the other is very easy.
Outbuildings: There are two pavilions which form the extremities of the French formal garden. One of them is a fully restored chapel. There is also the stable block which has been converted into a pool house, with two changing/shower rooms, a large modern kitchen, and a function room with a gallery which can seat 26 people for dinner. There are three other buildings in the grounds, including the caretaker's house, which are not available for guests.
Further details outdoors: Outside: The total estate is set in about 50 hectares. The formal gardens account for about seven hectares of that and include the avenue leading up to the chateau, the walled Italian garden, the orchard, and the formal French garden. The latter is an enormous formal garden with 36 topiary yew trees, and a vast fountain. There is also a small house in the garden for children to play in. The swimming pool is heated and has a pool house with showers and changing rooms. There is plenty of covered parking space in the garages.
