The Normandy / Calvados region
The countryside in this part of Normandy is delightful, with its hills and wooded valleys, apple orchards and meadows-it comes as no surprise that the region is famous for its cheeses, cider, and of course Calvados brandy. The coastline is beautiful, with wide, sandy beaches, and is largely unspoilt. For lovers of horses this is the region of Haras (stud farms).-and Deauville is known for its yearling sales and horse races.
Normandy has a rich past, and among the many places of historical and architectural interest to visit in the region are Bayeux, with its Tapestry, the sites of the Allied landings in 1944, Caen, and the historic port of Honfleur. There are beautiful villages such as Beuvron en Auge and Beaumont en Auge to see, plus a wealth of chateaux and manoirs.
Sporting possibilities include golf, sailing, wind surfing, horse riding, tennis and swimming. This is a gastronomic region, known for its seafood as well as its dairy products.
Deauville / St Hymer area
There is wonderful country around the Manoir de L’Aumone to be explored, whether by car, on foot by bicycle or on horseback. A network of footpaths gives walkers access to enchanting countryside accessible only on foot. Deauville, with its beach and boardwalk, casino, luxury shops and fine restaurants, is 15 minutes away. Deauville was originally built as a 19th century fashionable spa, and today it has a modern Thalasso Therapy centre..Deauville’s close neighbour,Trouville , still an active fishing port, offers another beautiful beach , a casino, and restaurants all along the quayside., many of them specialising in seafood. Honfleur, with its cobbled streets, its ravishing old harbour, and its long association with artists, is 20 minutes away.
