The Normandy / Calvados region
The Normandy region of northern France combines a 360-mile dramatic coastline with a rich interior of verdant farmland and lively market towns. It is also home numerous historical landmarks such as the cities of Bayeux, Caen and Rouen. Gastronomic delights are aplenty, from cheese, fine wines and Calvados.
The largest military landing in history took place in Normandy June 6, 1944. Museums, monuments, bunkers and cemeteries are a lasting tribute to the Battle of Normandy, a unique experience and a must see.
A perfect base from which to tour the famous beaches, the little town of Bayeux is built around the magnificent Cathedral of Notre-Dame and is home to the 200-foot long Bayeux Tapestry, a world famous work of art whose cartoon-like scenes portray the epic tale of William the Conqueror's expedition to England in the 11th century.
Deauville area
There are a number of shops and services nearby, such as mini-markets, doctor’s surgery, pharmacy, cash machine, bureau de change and mini-market. With the supermarket approximately 3 km away.
Sports and leisure in the area include a watersports centre which provides equipment hire and courses for windsurfing and catamaran sailing. There is the Golf Club of Caen (45 km), which has 18-hole and compact 9-hole courses, practice range and putting-green. Plus the Barrière de Deauville Golf course nearby and the Saint-Gatien-des Bois golf course between Deauville and Honfleur (both providing 18 holes and 9 holes). There is also a 6-hole practice range 10 km away.
Horse-riding is available at the "L'Oxer" centre in Tourgeville / Deauville, this includes instruction, techniques, and rides on the beach.
Deauville municipal club on the beach provides 19 tennis courts (11 clay, 8 quick clay).
For children there is “Club Mickey” (3-14 years), located on the beach. Dancing, judo, climbing, team sports and watersports, competitions, snacks and swimming lessons are available. For older children there is the Teen Club (12-18 years) with Deauville-Loisirs next to the “Etablissement des Bains de Mer”. Sailing, windsurfing, tennis, table tennis, sand yachting, volleyball, bodyboarding, board games and swimming pool activities possible.

July : The Sea and Mackerel Festival in Trouville (2 km) and "Swing in Deauville" by Barriere Casino in Deauville. August : “Festijazz” in Houlgate: 3 days of jazz concerts all over the resort (14 km). September : Festival of American Film in Deauville and “Top Résa” International Tourism Trade Fair in Deauville. October : Paris-Deauville vintage car rally and International Horse-Drawn Carriage Competition in Deauville: 2 exceptional weeks celebrating horses, bringing together the entire horse world with a huge number of events throughout the Calvados region.
Deauville is famous for its many international events, as well as its horse racing, golf, luxury shops, its beach with the famous boardwalk, its casino, fairs and festivals. The Villa Strassburger, the Old School, the Old Presbytery and Saint Laurent's Chapel.
How to get there
By air: The most convenient way to do it would be to fly to Paris, the resort is about a two hour drive for there. Paris is served by most major airways and from many destinations. Alternatively fly to one of the local airports - St-Gatien, Le Havre, Caen.
By Ferry: Portmouth to Le havre, or portmouth to Caen.
