The Normandy region
The Pays d'Auge is a very green hilly area. It is known for its scenery, including apple orchards, undulating hilltops, and grazing horses. You can ride a mountain bike on one of the many trails, go for a horse ride (the closest horse riding centre is just 1km away) or a hike. You can discover how "Calvados" apple brandy is made by visiting the nearby distillery, and taste some too! At the green market of Lisieux or Dives sur Mer, discover local produce, cheeses such as "Pont l'Eveque", and seafood fresh from the Atlantic.
Children can discover how cider is made and how cheeses are matured at the Saint Hippolyte farm, but they can also go tree-climbing at St. Gatien or visit the Cerza safari-zoo with semi-free animals. A water park is available in Lisieux (Le Nautile).
You can also just stay at home, play pinball, or take up a challenge at table tennis or table hockey in the game room. If you want to relax, you can enjoy a cup of tea in front of a fireplace while contemplating the roses in the garden.
The glitzy beaches and the casino of Deauville are a 20 min ride away, and the American film festival takes place there every spring.
Scenic Honfleur is also about 25min away, offering a wooden cathedral, picturesque port and numerous art galleries. In an hour or so, you can get to the D-day beaches, the city of Rouen with its beautiful cathedral. Other sites within reach include Pont Audemer, the Norman Venice, the beautiful seaside resort of Etretat with its famous cliffs,
Nearby Pont l'Eveque (13km) offers a full range of activities such as racing cars to be driven on a closed circuit, quads to discover the countryside, canoe rides on a river, paint-ball, and many more. The golf course of St. Julien sur Calonne (10km) offers both 18 holes and 9 holes.
