Home description

Once a pub The Albion is now a stylish holiday home run by an interior stylist. On the sea front in Deals conservation area the rooms all have sea views and you only have to cross the road to be on the beach. The Albion was built in 1760 originally as a sail makers house and it retains many original features. The conservation area is made up of charming Georgian narrow lanes with very few cars and every house is different. Great fun to explore on foot trying out the various pubs you go past. Deal has a fabulous fish and chip shop in Middle Street, just a few minutes away, and is a must. Being so close to three golf courses The Albion is the perfect base for a golfing break. An abundance of good restaurants makes eating out easy as they are all within walking distance, as are the pubs. Deal is the perfect place to relax, enjoy the history, eat well and enjoy either sunny or bracing walks along the scenic sea front.

The South East England / Kent region

Deal is in a part of Kent steeped in history and has three castles to prove it - Walmer, Deal and Sandown - not to mention the fabulous Dover Castle only 7 miles away. Numerous places of interest can be researched on line but here are a few of our favourites to start you off:

Parks - www.fowlmead.co.uk, www.howletts.net, www.quexmuseum.org.
Golf -www.royalstgeorges.com, royalcinqueports.com
Heritage - www.canterbury-catherdral.org, www.english-heritage.org.uk

The White Cliffs of Dover, Sandwich Town with boats trips along the River Stour and an abundance of history and things to do in Canterbury, Ramsgate, Broadstairs and Margate are all within 30 minutes drive or take a local scenic train journey.

Deal area

Deal is a great place for families as the conservation area is virtually car free, all you need is in walking distance and Deal has a charming amusement arcade, ice cream parlour and Tides swimming pool. The abundance of pubs and restaurants make Deal a perfect place for groups of friends to relax over a weekend with a good walk and plenty of sea air. Deal has a small farmers market on a Wednesday and a Saturday market with bric a brac, fruit and veg etc. The bandstand on Walmer Green holds regular Sunday afternoon concerts and a large fair arrives in the summer. Deal also holds an annual Folk festival and Sea Shanty.
All the shops are within walking distance and Deal is lucky enough to still have a great fishmongers, butchers, greengrocers, a few deli's, bread shop....in fact there is no need to go to the supermarket, although Deal does have an M&S and Sainsburies. Deal also has a good local organic produce shop called Allotment five minutes from The Albion. If you like finding a bargain Deal has numerous good charity shops and antique and vintage shops. For a great Sunday Brunch with newspapers and Eggs Benedict before the bracing walk try The Black Douglas on the sea front and for a Sunday Roast The Prince Albert Pub....its all to good!! Other places of interest in Deal and surrounding areas are as follows: Cottingham Lakes for Coarse Fishing with day tickets, Deal Maritime Museum, Tides Swimming Pool and Tennis, Timeball Museum and Samphire Hoe.

If thats all to much then settle for a day fishing of Deal pier with a beer and pint of prawns from the seafood stall!

The Albion has featured in many interior magazines and is also used for fashion and lifestyle shoots. All the vintage furniture and props are from the owners own home and make the interior feel homely yet stylish and interesting. The rooms are very light and airy with large windows overlooking the sea. The kitchen is stocked with almost everything you could think of and a small selection of store cupboard items are left in situ. The utility room has a washing machine, iron and board. The large sitting room was once the main pub room and has a very high beamed ceiling and two large windows making it very light. For Winter holidays the sitting room has a large log burner. Two large sofas are on either side of the fireplace and a dining table is set in front of the curved window. A large staircase leads up to the main bedroom and bathroom. The super king size bedroom also has a wicker sofa and coffee table with lovely sea views from two large windows. Next door to the main bedroom is the large bathroom with roll top bath, shower, large basin and oak cupboard. This room also has a small balcony that catches the afternoon sun. From the kitchen a door leads to the second small staircase that leads to the top/second floor landing with a bathroom and loo combined. Up a few stairs and you will find the double and twin rooms, both with sea views. A small window at the back of the twin room provides a pretty view of Deal rooftops. A local, mostly organic, welcome pack is provided as well as Egyptian cotton towels and bedlinen.

Guestbook for The Albion

Dear Hilary & Davina,

Just to say thanks for a lovely weekend in Deal, what a wonderful secret part of England! Such a lovely house and so well equipped - you really had thought of everything...it felt like staying in a home rather than a rented property.

Many thanks again, we'd love to come back and stay another time.
Kind regards,
Angela & Mark

Dear Hilary,

Just to say we had a super weekend at your lovely home, The Albion, in Deal. The house was beautifully furnished and decorated and extremely comfortable.

Thanks very much,
James

Dear Hilary
The Albion really was a lovely place to photograph and I'm very grateful. I've got a meeting at the publishers tomorrow so will make sure the credit goes in. We really enjoyed our day in Deal despite of the weather.
Many thanks and best wishes
Liz
