The Kent region

Kent is steeped in history and rightly known as the 'Garden of England' with rolling hills, orchards, hop fields and an extensive and varied coastline.

There is something for everyone - the majestic Tudor castles of Dover, Deal and Walmer, the medieval walled city of Canterbury and the narrow lanes and pretty timbered houses of Sandwich as well as lovely rural countryside. The long and varied coast offers the differing resorts of Whitstable, Broadstairs and Folkstone and inland are many pretty country villages with tea rooms. The oldest brewery in England is based at historic Faversham and Tenterden has a picture postcard High Street lined with antique shops. There is also the beautiful and historic garden of Vita Sackville West at Sissinghurst and The Secret Garden in Sandwich designed by Sir Edward Lutyens.

It is also easy to visit France from Dover or via the Eurotunnel and there are 2 major shopping areas - Westwood Cross near Ramsgate and a discoun outlett village near Ashford.

Kent offers a wealth of activities for all year round - there are 3 championship golf courses, walking with wonderful views from the Saxon Shore way along the shore and the cliff tops and of course sailing and fishing anywhere along the coast or on lakes. A short drive takes you to country pubs, tea rooms and antique shops or feel the wind in your hair on any of the cycle paths!

Deal is a charming and unspoilt small seaside town between Dover and Ramsgate - an ancient Cinque port since 1278 and opposite the infamous Goodwin sands. It is perfect for a relaxing holiday or break and has a wealth of things to do and see most within easy walking distance.

It is a friendly and sociable town with some good restaurants and cafes and lively pubs some with live music. It is the perfect place to enjoy good food - there's award winning fish and chips in Middle Street - bracing walks in the sea air, and time with family and friends just wandering round the individual little shops or having a beach BBQ In the summer.

There are several High street names as well as an excellent fishmonger, an organic greengrocers, a wonderfull bakers shop, an Italian patisserie/coffee shop and an end-of-pier cafe with panoramic views of the Goodwin sands.
