Cottage | 3 bedrooms | sleeps 6
From The Sea is a cosy terraced cottage in the heart of Deal's Conservation Area, Grade II Listed and built in the early 1700s. It has a relaxing sitting room with a multi-fuel stove and a separate dining room, also with its own multi-fuel stove, overlooking the courtyard. There's a small but fully equipped galley kitchen and downstairs family bathroom with roll-top bath and separate shower cubicle. Freeview TV/DVD in sitting room and two of the bedrooms; free WiFi; iphone/ipod docking station. Courtyard for al fresco dining. There are three bedrooms which can accommodate 6 people: one with a king sized bed; one with a double bed and en suite shower room/WC and the other bedroom with two single beds. However, a travel cot is also available on request, and the cottage can therefore accommodate A MAXIMUM OF 7 PEOPLE if the cot is utilised (by a baby or toddler under 2 years of age).
The cottage is ideal not only for a romantic break away for two, but for two or three couples, as well as for family holidays. It's also ideal if you're travelling alone as it's so convenient for everything you need. However, the stairs, which are a character feature of the property, are steep and winding, so may not be suitable for people with restricted mobility.
There's plenty to see and do in Deal itself – there are lots of cafes, pubs, restaurants, fascinating and individual shops, plus Deal and Walmer Castles, a theatre and specialist food shops. The town's terrain is mostly flat so you can walk or cycle everywhere with ease and may not even need a car. (Deal Railway Station is 5 to 10 minutes walk away, so too the local - and National Express - bus & coach terminus). The beach is less than 1 minute's walk away and the town 5 minutes.
There are also lots of places to choose from for a day trip, either to other Kent coastal resorts such as Whitstable (3/4 hour drive away), Broadstairs (beautiful sandy bays), Ramsgate (harbour cafes and bars) or Margate (Turner Contemporary gallery), as well as historic Canterbury, medieval Sandwich or Tudor Rye (just over the East Sussex border), not to mention London on the High Speed Train (just over an 1 hour each way), and ferry crossings to France for a day's shopping via nearby Dover. And, of course, if you come by car, the whole of the wonderful Kent countryside is on the doorstep too. This part of East Kent is also renowned for its many professional golf courses, including the world famous Royal St George's and Royal Cinque Ports to name but two.

* Small, secure courtyard garden at rear, with table, 6 chairs and parasol, accessed via the kitchen. No exterior exit from courtyard.

* Minimum 2 night stays (starting on any day of the week) throughout Low Season. High Season bookings are normally for a minimum of 7 nights starting on a Saturday but, subject to availability and demand, 2 night stays can very occasionally be accepted during these periods starting on any day of the week.
* The cottage is available from 4pm on the day of arrival, and guests must vacate by 11am on the day of departure.

You are therefore advised to take these points into consideration if contemplating making a booking, or contact the owners for any further information in this regard.
* Please note that all payments, whether by cheque or bank transfer, must be made in pounds sterling only, and the owners regret that they are unable to accept euros or any other currency, or any payments via debit or credit cards.
The South East England region
Deal is an historic seaside town on the east Kent coast, located between the historic Cinque Ports of Dover and Sandwich. It was an important seafaring town and well-known for its smuggling activities - many of the houses had linked underground tunnels. The county of Kent is known as the 'Garden of England' and has a varied, beautiful landscape with lots of National Trust gardens to visit in the county. The climate is generally warmer than other areas of England during the summer months, and Deal itself is sheltered from westerly winds.
Deal is a small town, full of character and historic houses. It's the perfect destination for couples wanting a romantic break away, older couples or singles who enjoy browsing the great selection of very individual shops and taking days out, as well as younger families. There is so much to do in the town itself, and it's well situated for days out too.
In the town (which is mostly flat terrain), there's a long promenade close to the sea so it's perfect for walking and cycling. And the shingle beach is charming and easily accessible. The pier is a great focal point and has a spacious glass-sided cafe at the far end, with uninterrupted sea views, and, on clear days, you can see the waves breaking on the Goodwin Sands so don't forget your binoculars!
Tides Leisure Centre in the town has a toddlers' pool and swimming pool with wave machine, and there's a children's free outdoor paddling pool virtually on the beach at Walmer, which is close by. The Deal Maritime & Local History Museum and Deal and Walmer Castles are all well worth a visit.
There are lots of cafes, restaurants, pubs and bars to choose from, and many individual shops such as a great bakery, deli, fishmonger, butcher, organic shop, health food shop and more. Plus there are some really super bric a brac and antique shops if you like looking around for a good bargain. If you prefer supermarkets, there are a couple within walking distance of the cottage, and there's even a small M&S in the town. Plus there's a farmers' market every Wednesday and a general market on Saturdays.
Deal Festival of Music is held in early summer and Deal Folk By The Sea Festival takes place every September. Plus there are free open-air concerts on the bandstand at Walmer Green most Sunday afternoons in the summer (including an annual performance by the Band of the Royal Marines who used to be based in town). Plus do look to see what's on at the local Astor Theatre and The Lighthouse in Walmer, as well as the many other music pubs in town.
If you love golf, you'll like Deal! It has its own excellent course and the nearby Championship Course at Sandwich is world-renowned.
In recent years, Deal has been included in national newspapers' lists of 'Best Spots To Lay Your Beach Towel' and 'Best Places to Cycle By The Sea'; has won the National Piers Society's 'Best Pier Of The Year' and, in 2014, was named The Daily Telegraph's 'Best High Street Of The Year'.

Cannot rate this cottage highly enough! We were in Deal for my nieces wedding with my daughter's and their partners. The location is perfect as some days we did not need the car at all. It was so… More

"I could have asked for nothing better - warm and cosy, so welcoming."
My wife and I enjoyed our stay at the house last year so much that we brought friends with us this time. We all loved Deal and the house is perfect - you immediately feel so at ease. We were pleased to see that the welcoming basket of local produce is still provided and it was very much appreciated.
The pictures do not give justice to the warmth and comfort that the accommodation provides and with so many nice touches. I have absolutely no hesitation in recommending a stay here.
We will be coming back later in the year to experience Deal in the summer - but then again the log fire was really appreciated this time.

"Cosy and Comfy"
"I had a lovely time staying in your beautiful & cosy seaside cottage. I have been spoilt by all the yummy organic & local produce (especially the bread) which you so kindly provided. The wood burning fire was extra comforting on one particular chilly evening and the choice of DVDs were great when being warmed by the fire. The bathroom is luxury and I was tempted to stay in there all day long. The yellow bedroom was warm & cosy with a bed that offered the best night's sleep I've managed all year! Now I know the meaning behind 'sleepy little seaside town'. What a lovely little town Deal is and what a lovely place to stay & enjoy it. Thank you so much.". Catherine Moorey, Wallington, Surrey. "A perfect family holiday"
We enjoyed a great week in Deal staying at From the Sea. With 2 young boys aged 5 and 2 we found the cottage and Deal met our holiday requirements perfectly. Location wise you are just a few minutes away from the beach, amusements, ice cream parlours, pubs and restaurants - of which there are enough to cater for all tastes and budgets. Deal has something for everyone and we instantly felt totally relaxed. Within easy drive we found a number of fun activities for the children, including safari parks, farms, steam railways, and lovely sandy beaches. The cottage itself is spotlessly clean (no need to clean the bath before the children use it - which sadly I've had to do on many a holiday), the beds are like giant marshmellows with gorgeous pillows and big duvets, the 3 TVs with built in DVDs were great for the odd lazy hour we spent in the cottage, and the courtyard garden was lovely to eat in and have a glass of wine when the children were in bed. We didn't find the stairs to be a problem with the children. The staircase is closed off by internal doors which act as perfect stair gate.
We will certainly visit From the Sea again, bringing grandparents and friends with us next time.

"5/5 - I'd move in tomorrow!!"
A weekend simply wasn't long enough to enjoy Deal but more importantly this most fantastic cottage!. What a complete find - everything you could possibly want and then some... I was holidaying with 3 friends and first time I can remember there wasn't an argument over who had which room as all amazing. We have already planned our return visit and staying a lot longer this time (as never got to try out the magical bath). I can't rate this cottage highly enough or known such friendlier and helpful owners who bent over backwards to make our stay as enjoyable as possible.

We couldn't have asked for a better stay in Deal. The cottage had everything we needed, was beautiful, so homely, decorated to perfection, and the bathroom was luxurious. It is also in an excellent location!
We stayed in the warm weather and made good use of the garden, but can't wait to get back there in the winter to try out that log fire!!

This is a beautiful cottage that had absolutely everything we needed and more! The hamper of essentials that was waiting for us when we arrived was lovely and unexpected. We stayed for the weekend and had a great time in Deal, it was a shame our stay was so short. I can't wait to go back, I will definately stay in this cottage again!!!!

We really enjoyed our stay at this beautiful cottage. The owners thought of every detail. Well equipped kitchen, beautiful bedrooms. We really enjoyed our basket of local treats. They were able to provide travel cot and high chair for our son. We also brought some friends with us. It was a very comfortable stay. No matter what the weather there is lots to do. Deal itself was a charming town, and there is much to do within easy reach. Equally it was fun just to stay in and play games and enjoy the fire.
