The Western Cape region

The lure of Cape Town lies in its spectacular setting and the beauty of its natural environment, as well as the rich cultural diversity of its people often known as the Mother City, is found in the Western Cape Province, being a top tourist destination for its beautiful beaches and picture perfect scenery.

Flower sellers, business executives, parking attendants, office workers and shoppers all rub shoulders in a setting of both historical and modern buildings, backed by the city’s most famous landmark, Table Mountain. The colourful Malay Quarter, the remains of District Six, St George's Cathedral, Government Avenue and the old Castle are historically significant, while world-class African and international restaurants tempt travelers with their culinary delights. Although an African city, Cape Town has a marked European influence and visitors can experience the excitement of Africa from the comforts of First World surroundings. Cape Town's unique setting means that it can be enjoyed from various vantage points.

Many scenic routes meander along magnificent stretches of coastline and inland terrain leading to special places like Cape Point, the meeting place of the cold Benguela and warm Mozambique currents, and Chapman’s Peak boasts one of the most picturesque drives in the country.

It is a city with four distinct seasons, each working its particular magic on Cape Town and bringing with it a flood of associations - summer and white sandy beaches, autumn's crisp colours, the ferocity of stormy seas in winter, and spring's show of Cape ‘fynbos’ flowers.

De Waterkant is situated in the suburb of Green Point, Green Point has been called the Soho of Cape Town – with its funky restaurants and busy nightclubs, the place has an energy all of its own.

Green Point is all about location, location, location. Wedged between Table Bay, Signal Hill, Sea Point, the V&A Waterfront and the city centre, this little village is in the middle of all the local action.

De Waterkant

About 5 minutes drive from the apartment is the world renowned Table Mountain cableway that has been in existence for 78 years. The cableway travels to the summit at 1085 meters in less than 5 minutes. From this rotating gondola you have a 360º view of one of the world's most beautiful city. About 800 00 visitors from all over the world use the cableway annually.

10 minutes walk will bring you to the world renowned Victoria & Alfred Waterfront. Situated between Robben Island and Table Mountain, the V & A Waterfront has become South Africa's most visited tourist destination. This shopping hub is set against a backdrop of magnificent sea and mountain views. From the Nelson Mandela gateway situated at the V & A Waterfront you will be able to take a ferry to South Africa's famous heritage site, Robben Island.

The southern tip of the African continent is the meeting place of two mighty and bountiful oceans, the Indian and the Atlantic. The Two Oceans Aquarium on the V&A Waterfront, Cape Town is ideally positioned to showcase the incredible diversity of marine life found in these two oceans. The Aquarium is one of the top tourist attractions in Cape Town and over 3000 living sea animals, including sharks, fishes, seals, turtles and penguins can be seen in this spectacular underwater nature reserve.

Cape Town's Aquarium offers adventure diving with sharks, spectacular function and conference venues and activities for kids. The Aquarium is also involved in fascinating ocean projects, including shark conservation and sunfish research, and offers exciting environmental education programmes

Alongside Table Mountain is this beautiful piece of distinctive shaped mountain slope. This proud lion overlooks the city and Table Bay on one side, and the scenic Atlantic Ocean coastline on the other. On a clear day the views are spectacular and great for taking photographs, particularly of Robben Island. With a pair of good hiking boots you will be able to wind you way around the lions head until you reach the chains taking you to the very top where you will be able to enjoy champagne and caviar and experience the most beautiful African sunset.

45 minutes drive will bring you to the Cape Winelands with its breathtaking vistas and majestic mountain drops. Rolling vineyards and quaint Cape Dutch Homesteads await you, as well as award winning wine farms offering some of the countries best wines and food.

Mouille Point, Cape Town. At Metropolitan Golf Club you enjoy your game in the most centrally situated green belt of Cape Town. Adjacent to the V&A Waterfront (5 minute walk) with magnificent views of Table Mountain and Signal Hill. Metropolitan Golf Club is officially a 9 hole course with a variety of greens and tee's resulting in a different challenge for the second round.

The Metropolitan Golf Club is not among the most attractive courses of the Cape. Its great advantage, however, is its position close to the city centre. Any one living in Sea Point, Green Point or at the Victoria & Alfred Waterfront, can actually walk there. The view of Table Mountain is beautiful. The terrain is quite even, bunkers and water hazards are well placed.
