The West Country region

Dawlish - tucked away in a quiet corner of South Devon, bounded by the Exe Estuary to the east and the Teign estuary to the west.

Dawlish nestles into the valley of the Dawlish Water river on the south coast of Devon. As it flows through the town, the river becomes known as 'The Brook' and is home to the famous black swans of Dawlish.

Behind the town the Dawlish Water valley rises steeply up to Ashcombe and Haldon. This is true Devon countryside with its narrow winding roads and high hedges running through fields, woodland and small hamlets with their thatched cottages.

On the seaward side the town is bounded by the sea wall of Brunel's famous 'Atmospheric Railway', which provides a seaside promenade well over a mile long to Dawlish's close neighbour, Dawlish Warren.

Dawlish

Dawlish is a delightful town characterised by both Victorian and Georgian architecture. The brook that runs through the gardens in the centre of the town is home to the renowned black swans and leads directly to the sandy beach.

The coastline in the area offers a number of beaches, including several at nearby Dawlish Warren, where an extensive nature reserve can also be enjoyed. A range of shops and tea shops can be found at Dawlish along with rail and bus links.
