The Florida region
The Manors South is nestled in Polk County and not only handy for the parks, but also for the many beaches of Central Florida.
Daytona Beach - 88 miles(Home of the Nascar International Raceway & Bike Week)
Cocoa Beach - 82 miles(Home of the famous and largest RonJon Surf shop)
Treasure Island - 88 miles(A beautiful quiet beach)
Clearwater Beach - 83 miles(Fabulous sunsets and nice pier with stalls)
St Petersburg - 90 miles(Good pier, feed the pelicans, but watch your fingers)
These are all within 90 minutes drive and one of our suggestions is to drive up to Daytona, where you can drive on the beach, we sometimes stay the night and then drive down the A1A to Melbourne through Cocoa and past Patrick Airforce base, Satellite Beach and Pelican Beach, before driving back from Melbourne on the old 192.
Orlando is also a mecca for shopping with Premium outlets at both ends of International Drive, The Mall of Millenia, Florida Mall, The Loop (on the corner of the Osceola Parkway and John Young Parkway)Winter Garden Village just off the 429 Toll road (great tip, if the girls want to shop and you want to golf, drop them off and go 10 minutes to Orange County National which is a fabulous course where you may even bump into the odd golf celebrity) But for the real shopping bargains go to the customer service desk in Macy's where they will give you a 10% off card on production of your passport.
Don't forget to shop where the locals shop, Ross (dress for less) Marshalls and T J Maxx (these are where the real bargains are)
The Manors South at Westridge is just off Highway 27, yet only 20 minutes to Disney, 25 or 30 minutes to Seaworld and Universal Studios, 60 minutes from Busch Gardens, 80 minutes from Kennedy Space Centre and only 40 minutes from the new Legoland park.
There are a number of great golf courses with the closest being 2 minutes away at Highlands Reserve and only 10 minutes to Champions Gate.
10 minutes to shops at Posner Park, including J C Penney,Target, Best Buy electrical, Dicks Sporting Goods, Dollar store & Ross(for the real holiday bargains in fashion etc)
There is also a smaller shopping area 5 minutes away at Berry Plaza with a Supermarket, Pharmacy, Banks, Liquor Store, Tobacconists, Restaurants and English Pub, not to mention a very good Pizzeria just outside the subdivision that delivers.
Situated 10 minutes North on Hwy 27 is a Walmart at Cagan Crossings.
There are a number of restaurants for every taste on the 27 and 192, but for a fabulous dining experience go to Mannys Chop House at Haines City (20 minutes south on 27) this is authentic American dining, great steaks, it does look a bit ramshackled, but the food is excellent and if your feeling brave enough try the Chocolate Brownie Overdose for dessert (4 of us couldn't finish it)
Go early, it's where all the locals go and it gets packed with Happy Hour 4 til 7.
A further great dining experience is O'hana at Disneys Polynesian Hotel, here they serve a south seas open pit barbecue, it has a fixed price of about $30, but you need to book about 2 months in advance through the Disney website(it gets that busy) they also do some great cocktails, if you get in at the right time you can watch the Magic Kingdom fireworks through the windows.
