The Turquoise Coast/Lycia region
Datca is situated on the Datca peninsula which is surrounded on three sides by sea. Datca is a town where life centres around the harbour. Carpet shops, boutiques, restaurants, bars line the harbour side and each evening an assortment of gulets and yachts drop anchor in this attractive setting.
In Datca you don't need a car, (Dolmus or public minibuses seem to go everywhere) but it can add to the holiday allowing the freedom to explore, stopping as you wish. A drive through the peninsula with pine forests and roads zig zagging down to sea level will bring you to Knidos, on the tip of the peninsula, a site dating back to 400BC and most famed for its statue of Aphrodite.
There are numerous bays, some sandy, some pebbly but all with crystal clear water and many ideal for snorkelling. Karaincir is a bay - just 12km from Datca town it has a splendid golden sandy beach and calm, shallow waters.
Travelling through the small villages scattered around the peninsula you will be surprised to find how traditional life continues. If you prefer to explore by boat there are boat trips available from the harbour calling at many of the bays unreachable by road, you can even take a day trip to the Greek island of Symi. The nearest major town is Marmaris, a one hour drive through the mountains, the scenery is spectacular and at points you can see the sea on both sides of the peninsula. From this end of the Datca penninsula you can also explore the beautiful Loryma Penninsula. Bodrum, with its ancient sites/museums and modern shopping is a ferry ride away and in high season there is a daily ferry boat taking two hours, three times weekly in low season. From Bodrum you can explore the Bodrum penninsula and visit Ephesus and beyond. All this can be by private car hire or via the wonderfully reliable and economic bus system.
On Saturday the villagers assemble in Datca for market day affording the opportunity to buy some of the best local produce. Datca is famed for its almonds, honey and thyme and something you cannot buy in the market - the air! In ancient times it was known as "magic air", due to the north wind that blows in the summer there is very little humidity and this is considered to be of great benefit for some medical complaints!
Nearby "Eski Datca", or Old Datca. is the original inland settlement. Little stone houses line the narrow streets.
Datca area
Datca situated half way along the mountainous, forested peninsula is an idyllic resort. There is a lively harbour set in stunning scenery whose relaxed happy atmosphere will captivate you immediately. The entire region is a combination of traditional Turkish friendliness and hospitality, tranquility, sophistication and good fun. You can choose to seek any or all of these qualities as the mood takes. Discover the real Turkey, unspoilt and away from the crowds. If you are seeking a totally relaxing holiday in magnificent surroundings, Datca is for you.
Datca is ideal for a holiday experiencing the real Turkey. It has no mass tourism, no 'English pubs' but is an attractive working Turkish harbour town - where you will find English spoken. Delicious food is found in a wide choice of cafes and restaurants, from simple economic 'home-cooking' to stylish restaurants with reasonably priced cuisine and entertainment. Surrounded by beaches, with clean and safe swimming, you can walk easily to everything or chose to explore further. There is a beautiful open air theatre on the waterfront where, during the summer months a festival of concerts and operas are performed, often free.
Datca offers shops selling traditional Turkish items, carpets, leather, textile, jewellery, herbs & spices, souvenirs and lots more. Within the town is a welcoming Turkish Bath.
Activities include walking, swimming, snorkelling, diving, sailing, fishing, shopping, cycling, rafting, trekking, tennis and yoga. There are diving schools and dinghy and surfing school for children. The list is endless.

Guestbook
"A beautiful space in which to stay, with views of the islands and in a quiet Turkish locality near the beach - holidays don't come much better than this............my best holiday ever" Annie Cousins, Steyning, May 07
"Every time I return, as I get close, I feel so happy" Valerie Forshaw, Worthing June 07
"We had a lovely stay in May 2006. Weather was fantastic. Susan's House was perfect, more than enough room for 2 couples, welcoming, comfortable and clean. The resort itself was perfect - our friends were the more adventurous types and they were able to get to places by bus and ferry easily. We however, we were totally content to sit on the beach and soak up the atmosphere. Our favourite beach was the one near the spring. Datca is a good resort to please different types of holiday makers & I hope as it grows it retains it's charm and friendly welcoming residents." Jess&Dean, Sussex May 06
We had an absolutely wonderful time... our first visit to Turkey and our week stay was a memorable one. The apartment and its location was perfect with fantastic views of the sea from the balcony ... The picturesque village of Datca was beautiful in its simplicity - the locals were warm and friendly and the food fantastic. There's lots to 'do' if you're looking for adventure but we were more than content swimming in the sea and soaking up the sun... J. Christie, Worthing, June 07
We loved Datca and your lovely home; the apartment is perfect and so simply appointed to allow for an easy vacation with all the necessities and niceties including your lovely large veranda. At last, our family of 6 was not bumping into to one another and could spread our legs. C.M., New Mexico USA, July 07
We had a great time and really liked Datca and the apartment; the pick up transfer... nice boat trip to Bodrum, interesting castle tour... best bits were boat trips around Datca and sitting in restaurants and bars along the beach and harbour in Datca. The locals are so nice ! Roger Francis and family, Petersfield, June 08
