Email we got from Julia, who stayed in June 2010 in the villa, one of our first guests:
“We have just returned from a fantastic holiday with our two kids at the authentic VillaOlivio in Mesudiye Datca. It was a perfect base for discovering this so far unspoilt part of Turkey, as well as being really attractive, clean and comfortable - and providing everything we needed, including an amazing swimming pool and marvelous views! Our kids enjoyed the pool all day, and also the nice beach nearby was a great place to stay. We were worried about the villa didn’t have an airco, but this was not needed (as Jeroen told us before). The thick stone walls keep its pleasantly cool in the house. The first days we eat around 19.00 on the big veranda and we found out the wasps are active at that time. We solved this by eating an hour later, this solved this little “problem”. The Datca Peninsula lived up to all our expectations it was fun driving through spectacular scenery to find quiet little bays and get really off the beaten track. Datca town was lovely and didn't feel too touristy - the large market on Saturday was a particularly friendly and colourful experience. The little authentic villages are really worthwhile to visit (eski-datca, hizersah etc), and the village people are very friendly and helpful! Thanks again Jeroen and Ebru for answering all our questions upfront, and Zafer, the local responsible guy for villaolivio, for helping us with every question we had! We come back for sure”.
Julia, Leeds June 2010
We were looking for a holiday place next to the Mediterranean sea, for our family of five. We don't like very much crowded places, and hotels with 400 rooms, but rather places where we can live amongst local people, and try to get a feel of their life.
We found Villa Olivio via the Home Exchange website. I immediatelly felt that the villa could meet our expectations, even if it was not yet finished to renovate. Thanks to the detailed explanations and the great website of Jeroen, we were able to get a real feeling of the place and we felt confident we would spend a great holiday in Villa Olivio.
And it has been at the level of our expectations. The house has been renovated with a lot of taste, keeping the atmosphere of the ancient olive oil mill, while offering all modern commodities. The outside patio is the place where we stayed most of the day when we were at the house, playing games with the kids or reading books. The pool is just perfect, always available for a swin, day or night. We enjoyed also very much laying on the sun beds at night, watching the stars in the sky...
The nature in Mesudye is unspoilt, the water in the various beaches is crystal clear, and I hope it will stay like this for many years to come.
Last but not least, the people we met in Mesudye were all friendly and always welcoming. We will always remember this moment, when we were walking in the village, and we were invited by a group of old men to have a "tchai" whith them at the local "cafe". We spent a good half hour talking to each other, with the five words of turkish we knew ! I will also never forget Zafer, the "house keeper", who has solution for every problem or wish we could think of.
We spent a great time in Villa Olivio, and I have already shared my experience with many friends. I would not be surprized that some of them decide for a vacation in Villa Olivio in the near future.

The Turquoise Coast/Lycia region

The stunning scenery and various ancient sites makes the Turquoise Coast of Turkey the ideal holiday destination. Unwinding in unspoilt beauty and taking dips in famous turquoise waters or discovering the beauty of the peninsula
The Datca / Mesudiye area
The Datca Peninsula:
The untouched coast, off the main tourist routes, Datca appears to be more like an oasis; a beautiful, quiet haven to peace and tranquillity. One of Turkey’s most unspoilt spots, boasting lovely vistas, rich flora, fresh air and crystal clean waters. Those who enjoy exploring and hiking will be surprised by the variety of nature and richness of the beautiful undiscovered place of the Datca Peninsula. This virtual island remains a wild and heavily wooded frontier region, famous for its three Turkish B's: Balik, Bal and Badem; fish, honey and almonds. Datca is a small town of around five thousand there is a lively harbor set in stunning scenery whose relaxed happy atmosphere will captivate you immediately. The entire region is a combination of traditional Turkish friendliness and hospitality, tranquility, sophistication and good fun. You can choose to seek any or all of these qualities as the mood takes. Discover the real Turkey, unspoilt and away from the crowds.
There are numerous bays, some sandy, some pebbly but all with crystal clear water and many ideal for snorkelling. Karaincir is a bay - just 12km from Datca town it has a splendid golden sandy beach and calm, shallow waters.
Driving through the small villages scattered around the peninsula you will be surprised to find how traditional life continues. If you prefer to explore by boat there are boat trips available from the harbor calling at many of the bays unreachable by road, you can even take a day trip to the Greek island of Simi. The nearest major town is Marmaris, a one hour drive through the mountains, the scenery is spectacular and at points you can see the sea on both sides of the peninsula. Bodrum is a ferry ride away and there is a daily ferry boat taking two hours.
On Saturday the villagers assemble in Datca for market day affording the opportunity to buy some of the best local produce. Datca is famed for its almonds, honey and thyme and something you cannot buy in the market - the air! In ancient times it was known as "magic air", due to the north wind that blows in the summer there is very little humidity and this is considered to be of great benefit for some medical complaints!
Datcatown itself situated half way along the mountainous, forested peninsula is an idyllic resort. There is a lively harbor set in stunning scenery whose relaxed happy atmosphere will captivate you immediately. The entire region is a combination of traditional Turkish friendliness and hospitality, tranquility, sophistication and good fun. You can choose to seek any or all of these qualities as the mood takes. Discover the real Turkey, unspoilt and away from the crowds. If you are seeking a totally relaxing holiday in magnificent surroundings, Datca is for you.
Datca is ideal for a holiday experiencing the real Turkey. It has no mass tourism, no 'English pubs' but is an attractive working Turkish harbor town - where you will find English spoken. Delicious food is found in a wide choice of cafes and restaurants, from simple economic 'home-cooking' to stylish restaurants with reasonably priced cuisine and entertainment. Surrounded by beaches, with clean and safe swimming, you can walk easily to everything or chose to explore further. There is a beautiful open air theatre on the waterfront where, during the summer months a festival of concerts and operas are performed, often free.
Datca offers shops selling traditional Turkish items, carpets, leather, textile, jewellery, herbs & spices, souvenirs and lots more. Within the town is a welcoming Turkish bath.
Activities include walking, swimming, snorkeling, diving, sailing, fishing, shopping, cycling, rafting, trekking, tennis and yoga. There are diving schools and dinghy and surfing school for children. The list is endless.
From Datca you can make lots of interesting excursions;
* the beautiful old Greece city Knidos.
* With the Ferry Boat to Bodrum.
* By boat to the Greece Island Symi.
* Visit Old Datca
* Visit a modern olive oil factory.
* Walking, biking
* and many many more.

It is a beautiful house in a lovely environment. The people are really nice and friendly. The further you get on the peninsula, the further you go back in history. Seeing old women riding on donkeys with their olive harvest. Response: Thank you for your review. Nice how tell the story, how further on the peninsula the further you go back in history. We hope to see you back once in beautiful Datca |

This converted olive factory had won us over from the minute we drove into the driveway. The villa was thoughtfully design with lots of quirky touches like olive sack cushions and bespoke handmade furniture. We loved the industrial look to the kitchen, espcially the concrete worktops. The colourful painted chairs gave a family feel to the inside and out with a huge dinning table on the veranda that we used everyday for meals and the kids drawing and painting. The pool was a perfect size, not too big not too small. It has the most amazing views of the Greek Islands and although we arrived in early October, the breeze coming up the mountain was very welcome due to still being very hot during the day. All mod cons were available to us here with the exception of a microwave..... We mainly stayed in the villa to dine in the evening, cooking was here was easy and the BBQ was used nearly every night. The beds were very comfortable and in general the villa is in great condition and very clean. A local shop just a 5 min walk away provided fresh bread, milk etc ..... All in all we had the perfect family holiday ....very relaxing with warm days and cool nights. The location was very perfect as we didn't want the usual tourist resorts. We loved the marina's and fish resturants and local beaches, all only 10mins drive away. Car hire is a definate requirement. Five *****. Response: Dear Connie It was a pleasure to have you as guests in our villa last minute. Once again it proved that november is a lovely time to stay in this area. Thank you very much for your helpful review Take care jeroen & Ebru |

I accidentally found Villaolivio while I was browsing for a boutique hotel around Datça area. When I saw the pics, I hesitated if they were real but the story behind this exquisite villa was so welcoming I could not stop myself to give it a try. me and my wife together with our 1 yr old son spent a wonderful week in this villa. We actually felt so home, we are going back this year again. The old olive mill has been turned into a very comfy villa without losing its character. Very spacious rooms, very contemporary hand made furnishing mixed with traditional touches creates a dreamy environment. The village nearby is so genuine, the sea is so clear and the panorama is breathtaking. whilst enjoying the view from terrace or nearby the pool, you definitely feel away from the rest of the world. I am pretty sure you'll like it there.

If your idea of a good vacation is staying in your own stand-alone luxury villa with a pool and lovely views down the mountainside to the sea, then this is your place! We spent a charmed week at Villa Olivio last month (May) and found all aspects of this special place to be, well, perfect.
The Villa itself is a beautifully restored olive press building with plenty of architectural interest. It has high ceilings, rugged stone walls, a well-designed and equipped kitchen and living area and a huge shower room/master bedroom that opens out to the covered porch and infinity pool (you can also open the double doors and have this lovely view from bed!)...and the bed was so very comfortable.
The kitchen has high-end appliances, good pots and pans - and plenty of nice plates, glasses and tableware is available. The beds have luxury linens as well, and the towels are plentiful and of good quality. A dining table is provided inside, but we preferred to eat at the second table outside on the covered porch.
The setting is very nice, in an olive grove near the top of a steep ravine going down to the sea with a choice of many beaches - three "official" beaches with tavernas, umbrellas and chairs to rent, etc. and a number of deserted coves where the swimming was just as good. The villa was very quiet at night, except for a brief time when the owls called to each other as the moon rose!
Just a little way down the road from Villa Olivio there is a village store with basic food items for sale and "village" bread baked fresh daily. There is a weekly farmers' market down at the beach - plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables. We cooked at home some nights and sampled the local tavernas on others - both are excellent options.
Before our arrival, the villa was stocked with breakfast items - cheese, cucumbers, tomatoes, eggs, butter, coffee, honey, etc., which made our first morning much more enjoyable.
There is plenty to see in the surrounding area, if you get tired of going to the beach or hanging out at the pool. For instance, a visit to the archaeological site at Cnidos made for a fun day, and Eski Daca ("old Datca") was interesting as well.
All in all, we can't recommend Villa Olivio enough. It was a vacation of a limetime...we'll be back!
