FAIRWINDS
About the home
This spectacular property is set on 2 floors and offers the most exquisite views over the River Dart, Dartmouth, the castle and out to sea. These panoramic views are available from all of the principal rooms as well as the sun terrace and first floor balcony. The accommodation was recently refurbished to a high standard. Fairwinds is perfectly situated for the ferry to Dartmouth, the Royal Dart Yacht Club, marina, village pubs and shop, all located a short stroll from the front door, yet it is quietly located to enjoy the peace that this beautiful area has to offer. It sits on the quiet coastal path, which is itself one of Englands most beautiful walks.
It is certainly a property for all seasons: in the summer its south facing aspect allows the sun to flood in through huge windows as you watch the sailing and fishing boats set sail for sea; in the winter, curl up by the fire and watch the waves crashing in past the castle. This holiday home has a sun terrace garden as well as a balcony. It is fully south facing unlike the majority of Dartmouth and is consequently a house blessed with sun many hours after the rest of the Dart plunges into dusk.

The West Country / Devon region

The West Country is one of the warmest places in the UK, so sub tropical plant life flourishes down here. The water is clean and the area has a laid back charm that has retained its timeless beauty. You can still enjoy with your family the traditional seaside holiday of your youth. The nearest bech, is lighthouse beach upon which sits one of the important navigational marks for the estuary. Its a perfect distance for a quick morning stroll before the rest of the familly awakes, but once youre up and ready for a hot summer day lazing on the sea shore, we reccomend the short trip to Blackpool sands, world acclaimed for its cleanliness, facilities, lifeguard, canoe hire, and safety. Further along the coast the wide sweeping start bay offers beaches at Tor cross, Bee sands and Hall sands. The beaches eastwards tend to be busier and a little more commercialised.
The Dartmouth / Kingswear area
There is so much to see and do in the South Hams and specifically Dartmouth that it would be foolhardy to attempt to build a picture. But if you are looking for clean seas, marvellous beaches, combined with the flawless way that the rolling green countryside flows seamlessly down to the sea and estuaries, you will never be disappointed here. On your way home from the beach, check out some of the galleries such as the D'art gallery or the boutiques such as White Stuff, Fat Face, Joules, or Crew.
In the evenings visit some of the many restaurants and bistros that line the quays. You could visit John Burton Races world famous New angel or the Seahorse, also run by celebrity chefs. Stay late and they will even drop you off in their river taxi! Or of course you might prefer to simply sit on the quay with a wrapper of fresh fish and chips as you watch your kids work the crabbing lines....Bliss!

Fairwinds is a beautiful house in a perfect location. Having stayed in Dartmouth for many years it was fascinating to discover Kingswear, which seeems to be much more of a sun trap. The very best thing about Fairwinds is its setting, with no traffic noise beyond the odd passing fishing boat and views across to the Castle and open sea. There are wonderful, traffic free walks right from the house's front door and good bus links around the area. The rooms are very spacious and have huge picture windows - the photos are very accurate. I agree with the comment about installing a power shower in the bathroom - it would make a major difference, especially if people are sharing. Kingswear is surpringly convenient - you can hop across on the ferry which is three minutes away and buy a book of tickets which gives you a 50% discount. There is also a very good general store which is well stocked and sells excellent fresh bread. We had dinner one night at Nonsuch House just behind Fairwinds - also highly recommended. We are looking forward to our next visit. Response: Many thanks - I am so glad that you enjoyed your holiday with us. |

I have come back from a stay at Fairwinds and what a lovely stay it was! The house was bigger than I was expecting, plenty of room if there were 6 of you staying there. It was just me and the dog so... more |
