This spectacular property is set on 2 floors and offers the most exquisite views over the River Dart, Dartmouth, the castle and out to sea. These panoramic views are available from all of the principal rooms as well as the sun terrace and first floor balcony. The accommodation is of a high standard. Fairwinds is perfectly situated for the ferry to Dartmouth, the Royal Dart Yacht Club, marina, village pubs and shop, all located a short stroll from the front door, yet it is quietly located to enjoy the peace that this beautiful area has to offer. It sits on the quiet coastal path, which is itself one of Englands most beautiful walks.

It is certainly a property for all seasons: in the summer its south facing aspect allows the sun to flood in through huge windows as you watch the sailing and fishing boats set sail for sea; in the winter, curl up by the fire and watch the waves crashing in past the castle. This holiday home has a sun terrace garden as well as a balcony. It is fully south facing unlike the majority of Dartmouth and is consequently a house blessed with sun many hours after the rest of the Dart plunges into dusk.

The West Country region

The West Country is one of the warmest places in the UK, so sub tropical plant life flourishes down here. The water is clean and the area has a laid back charm that has retained its timeless beauty. You can still enjoy with your family the traditional seaside holiday of your youth. The nearest bech, is lighthouse beach upon which sits one of the important navigational marks for the estuary. Its a perfect distance for a quick morning stroll before the rest of the familly awakes, but once youre up and ready for a hot summer day lazing on the sea shore, we reccomend the short trip to Blackpool sands, world acclaimed for its cleanliness, facilities, lifeguard, canoe hire, and safety. Further along the coast the wide sweeping Start Bay offers beaches at Torcross, Bee sands and Hall sands. The beaches eastwards tend to be busier and a little more commercialised.

There is so much to see and do in the South Hams and specifically Dartmouth that it would be foolhardy to attempt to build a picture. But if you are looking for clean seas, marvellous beaches, combined with the flawless way that the rolling green countryside flows seamlessly down to the sea and estuaries, you will never be disappointed here. On your way home from the beach, check out some of the galleries such as the D'art gallery or the boutiques such as White Stuff, Fat Face, Joules, or Crew.

In the evenings visit some of the many restaurants and bistros that line the quays. You could visit Annabelle's Kitchen, Kendrick's or the Seahorse,

Stay late and they will even drop you off in their river taxi! Or of course you might prefer to simply sit on the quay with a wrapper of fresh fish and chips as you watch your kids work the crabbing lines....Bliss!

The steam train from Kingswear to Paignton is only a few steps away from Fairwinds. Also not forgetting the various river cruises to Totnes or the Castle.

"In the words of Tina Turner... "simply the BEST"!"

Nothing could be added to make a stay at Fairwinds any better, except banning the rain!

Having stayed in many & varied cottages and houses both here in the UK, Spain & France I can confirm that we would, without hesitation, return to Alan & Christine's beautiful home.

Stunning views, that I would never tire of, were a natural bonus that complimented the stylishly elegant and nautical themes running through Fairwinds.

Two well appointed living rooms, two huge double bedrooms, a perfectly functional and well stocked kitchen, a great kids bedroom, a large bathroom & a landing that was a room in its own right... so much space – too little time!

I spent many an hour sitting on the terrace with the every-changing Dart River and its constant stream of waterborne traffic as a backdrop – who would have thought that from sunrise to sunset an estuary in Devon could deliver so much. The photos do not do justice to the setting or the house.

The access (mentioned in other reviews) is not for the faint hearted but that said, I drive a large 4x4 and the resulting peace & lack of traffic noise is a small price to pay for having to fold the mirrors in to negotiate the narrow gap!!!

"Worst ever holiday let"

Dirty damp dysfunctional. So bad we did not stay until the end of our booking. Owners response to our complaints was rude and unhelpful.

We have just returned from a wonderful holiday staying in this property in Kingswear. It is in a perfect position, is beautifully decorated, very spacious and has amazing views of

"A beautiful house and amazing location"

Fairwinds is a beautiful house in a perfect location. Having stayed in Dartmouth for many years it was fascinating to discover Kingswear, which seeems to be much more of a sun trap. The very best thing about Fairwinds is its setting, with no traffic noise beyond the odd passing fishing boat and views across to the Castle and open sea. There are wonderful, traffic free walks right from the house's front door and good bus links around the area. The rooms are very spacious and have huge picture windows - the photos are very accurate. I agree with the comment about installing a power shower in the bathroom - it would make a major difference, especially if people are sharing.
Kingswear is surpringly convenient - you can hop across on the ferry which is three minutes away and buy a book of tickets which gives you a 50% discount. There is also a very good general store which is well stocked and sells excellent fresh bread. We had dinner one night at Nonsuch House just behind Fairwinds - also highly recommended. We are looking forward to our next visit.

Many thanks - I am so glad that you enjoyed your holiday with us.

"Lovely Property, Beautiful Views!"

I have come back from a stay at Fairwinds and what a lovely stay it was! The house was bigger than I was expecting, plenty of room if there were 6 of you staying there. It was just me and the dog so i… More

"A peaceful getaway with great views for all seasons."

We much enjoyed a short break with friends which included a couple of swims in warm water at Blackpool Sands in late summer sunshine. The property commands great views over the Dart estuary & there is always activity of interest on the river. We made ample use of the sun terrace but the property would be a snug & cosy viewing outlook in any weather. It is good to avoid the high season hustle & bustle of Dartmouth, yet Kingswear provides sufficient for the basics of self catering & a couple of pretty decent pubs. Besides, the ferry service is frequent and the car or passenger trips to the other side add to the adventure.
The administration was all handled very efficiently and the property contained all we needed for our stay, though a power shower would be a useful addition. We have used the property in the past and are familiar with the narrow access road which can be a little daunting the first time.

Many thanks for staying with us again - so glad you enjoyed your stay

"Lovely house, poorly equipped kitchen and bathroom."

The house is in a lovely position and is very well furnished. The downside is there is an odd assortment of crockery and glasses and, for instance, a lack of teaspoons, i.e. only 3. No cups and sauc… More
