The West Country / Devon region
South Devon is known for having a temperate climate with water temperatures reaching up to 70 degrees by the end of the season. Artists love this area for the colours and fabulous light. The coastal towns of Salcombe and Dartmouth and the vibrant inland market towns of Totnes and Kingsbridge, are well worth a visit as part of your South Devon holiday. Dartmouth has a thriving, dynamic community and is renowned as a popular destination for visitors seeking rest, recreation and inspiration.
Dartmouth / Warfleet area
Offering fabulous views of the river, narrow lanes, stairways and corridors - Dartmouth is a must. The town has a reputation for good food - with many fine restaurants. Then there's Foss Street with eclectic shops and art galleries. The market square with the Friday fish market is fun too . Ancient buildings abound. The Cherub Inn (1380) and The Butterwalk (1628) which includes the Dartmouth Museum, are two of the oldest . The Royal Regatta, during August, with sailing and rowing competitions plus spectacular airbourne displays, often including the Red Arrows, is a world famous event. Hop on the picnic boat for lunch on the river. Jump on the ferry over to Kingswear to catch a steam train or simply enjoy the stunning river views from your cottage. Lounge on the privately owned beach at Blackpool Sands. Catch a movie at the Flavel Centre or have a night in catered by our own private cook. Tesco even deliver direct to the cottage!

Further details indoors: The ground floor is almost entirely open plan with a large seating area with two 3 seater sofas, satellite TV and DVD player. This leads into the dining area with I-pod dock and large oak table. The fully equipped kitchen runs off to one side from that. The kitchen includes a fully integrated fridge/freezer, 5 halogen hobs, microwave, fan assisted oven and dishwasher all by Smeg. French doors lead from the dining area onto the decking with its Weber barbecue, table and chairs. The ground floor also has a cloakroom and utlity room with a Bendix washer/dryer.
There are two double bedrooms on the first floor. The master suite with King size bed, en suite shower room, dressing area, TV and Plantation Shutters is to the front .To the rear is the guest bedroom, also with a King size bed. Next to that is the family bathroom with a large bath and hand held shower, plenty of fluffy towels and space to clean the children after a sandy day out! The second floor has another large bedroom presented as a twin but capable of becoming a double. Lastly the smaller twin bedded porthole room with it's feature round window and velux. There is also a separate cloakroom on the second floor. We would advise that the maximum we can allow to stay at the house is 8 people.
Further details outdoors: Above and behind the house is National Trust Land with direct access." Gallants Bower" is a famous local walk leading to hidden coves and sandy beaches. The Pottery has a wonderful communal area used for car parking and for children to play out and scoot about on scooters, bikes and blades. Parental supervision is a must. There is a small infrequently used road alongside the Pottery development where you can directly access the creek and thereon the River Dart. Our children run down to feed the ducks, watch for seals and picnic there on summer nights. Watching the boats returning in the evening with the light on the water is a favourite pastime. You can walk to Dartmouth Castle in under 5 minutes from the house. 15 mins takes you into town for browsing, eating and shopping.
